A recent discussion at a dinner table whether "gotten" or "got" were the preferable participle, received a practical solution, at least for the telegraphic service, from the experience related of a college professor who preferred "gotten." He had telegraphed to his wife, "Have gotten tickets for the opera tonight; meet me there." The telegraph operator rendered this into "Have got ten tickets, etc." Mrs. Professor wa3 delighted with the opportunity of entertaining her friends, and accordingly made up a party of eight besides herself, whose greetings to the professor at the rendezvous were probably more cordial than his feelings until matters were explained. He now makes an exception to his customary use of "gotten." London Chronicle.

Steve Ward was made business manager, and he will also be ticket seller at the park this season. Manager Lowney and a number of the players are at the ball park this afternoon In practice. Pitchers Irwin and Kostal and Jack Law, of the Mansfield team arrived In the Hty this morning In good form for the base ball season. There will be a little bafie ball in this city before, the opening of the league season.

The Terre Haute, team will be here to play the local Interstate team April 19, 20 and 21. Base ball managers will have to pay V' a dozen more for balls this reason as the edict has gone out from the Spaulding that the balls shall not be sold for less than $1.25 each, or 15 a dozen. Last year they were had for $12 a dozen. "Yes, everybody In the Interstate league thinks well of Bud Lally," Raid Manager Torreyson yesterday. The players and managers In the Interstate think he the best umpire In the country.

No one In the circuit has a word of complaint against him except some of the rooters In different towns who want the home clubs to get the bent of It. Lally Is not a home umpire. He gives his decisions Just as he sees them. He don't care anything about the home club. Managers and players know this and they like to meet him on the road.
