Freedom school tax rate rises FREEDOM A tax levy of $4,207,647 was approved by Freedom School District residents at the recent annual school meeting. The tax rate is expected to increase about 75 cents to $16.99 per 1 ,000 of equalized valuation. The levy includes $532,679 for debt service. Last year's levy was $3,657,980.

The increase is due to the debt service on a $6.77 referendum on school construction passed in November 1994. There was no debt service in the 1994-94 budget. The construction project includes a gymnasium, additional classrooms and renovation of district buildings. The $8,726,016 budget for the 1995-96 school year is about 6 more than last year. District Administrator Gary Scheuerell told the group of about 30 people attending the meeting that there is no state aid on the debt the first year after a referendum.

Board member Steven Buss reported the building project will begin shortly with bids going out this month. Target date for completion of the classrooms is fall of the 1996-97 school year.
