All telegraph and telephone wires in the region are out of commission save one? Enough is known to make it dear that hundreds of lives have been lost, millions of dollar's worth of property destroyed and, according to latest reports the city seems doomed to destruction by fire which broke out in many sections of the city immediately after the earthquake. The block bounded by Hansome, California, Pino and Battery streets, is practically doomed, th6 flames sweeping clear across it great sheets from Pine street with no apparatus available for its salvation. Mayor Schmitz, Chief of Police Dinan and General Funston, commander of the department of the Pacific, met this morning and General Funston called all the available troops for.servico if necessary in the emergency. A disastrous fire is eating its way up the south side of Market street, and at last accounts was within three blocks of the Palace hotel.
