VaHey Funeral Home 2211 N. Richmond Street 733-5435 Serving as would be served Peter D. Humleker, III 364 Park Street, Menashai Peter Dahl Humleker, III of Menasha died after a brief, hard fought battle with colon cancer on Sunday May 24, 1998. He was born in Neenah on March 20, 1946 to Margaret Banta Humleker and the late Peter Dahl Humleker, Jr. He was raised in Fond du Lac.

He was a cum laude graduate of both Shat-tuck School in Faribault, Minnesota and Lawrence University, Appleton, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. He received his juris doctor degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School where he was a member of Phi Alpha Delta 1AW Fraternity. He practiced law in Neenah since 1972. Although only 52 years old, Pete contributed more to his community than most people accomplish in the proverbial four score and ten. Pete always had a keen interest in those he believed to be forgotten or ignored by society, the physically, mentally and emotionally challenged.

He gave willingly and freely of his time and talent to various advocacy groups for those so challenged. Having a developmen-tally disabled sister, he was particularly aware of the difficulties families face in raising and caring for challenged children. Spurred by the often anonymous generosity or his late grandfather, George Banta, Jr. of Menasha, Pete used his talents to leave the Fox Cities a better place. He had a magic about him when with the disabled and he loved the summers he spent coaching the Association for the Retarded Citizens baseball team.

By example he left a legacy of tolerance, compassion, integrity, and understanding to many, in'particular, his beloved daughters: Ellyn and Katie. His influence and beliefs live on. He became involved with Goodwill Industries of North Central Wisconsin in 1976 and served by holding numerous offices and chairing various committees. At the time of his death he was Secretary of the Board and chaired the Development Committee. He was honored to be elected to the Board of Directors of Goodwill Industries International, serving on the executive committee and chairing various committees.

He was active with the Association for Retarded Citizens of Neenah-Menasha, serv-ing through the years as a board member and advisor to the organization. He was priviledged to serve on the Board of the Community Foundation of the Fox Cities and at the time of his death he remained a member of their professional advisory committee. He chaired the Parents' Council at Wayland Academy, Beaver Dam, Wisconsin and served a term on their Board of Trustees. He was currently on the Board of Directors of the Equitable Reserve Association, Neenah. He was a third generation of his family to belong to the First Presbyterian Church of Neenah.

He was proud that his daughters represent the sixth generation of the PleasantsBanta family to live on the Menasha side of Doty Island. He is survied by his wife, Cheryl; his mother, Margaret, Fond du Lac; his daughter, Ellyn and her husband, Douglas John Dzicdzic, Roseville, Minnesota; daughter, Catherine, at home; two brothers: George Banta Humleker and his wife, Terry, St. Joseph, Missouri; William Overby Humleker and his wife, Jana, Flat Rock North Carolina; two sisters: Margaret Humleker, Ripon; Anne Heintz and her husband, Les, Great Falls, Virginia; two nephews five nieces. Greenwood-Fargo Funeral Home 500 Hendricks Avenue Kaukauna Beasley said she recommended eliminating her creation, in part because of the controversy it attracted and underage smoking. "If you hear things enough, you start to believe them," she said. "I was very surprised because we started (Joe Camel) in 1988, and for years there was not much said about it." Despite criticism the cartoon character has generated, Beasley has no regrets about developing the campaign.

Kids start smoking because their parents smoke or because of peer pressure not because of advertising, Beasley said. Adults know smoking is a risk and take it knowing the consequences, she said. The decision to smoke can only be made by someone who is old enough to know what they are doing, she said. The campaign was intended to attract younger adult smokers by changing the image of Camels through the Joe Camel character, Beasley said. The idea was to get smokers to switch brands because Camel cigarettes were generally regarded as.

harsh and smoke mainly by older males. The campaign was aimed at 18-to 24-year-olds. Beasley is expected to take the stand in defense of Joe Camel in September 1999, when Wisconsin's lawsuit against tobacco companies is scheduled for trial in Madison. way to broaden the base of support for space programs. Aldrin also said he is convinced the secret to space program success is recycling: developing reusable space vehicles, such as the space shuttle, rather than costly throw-aways. "We want a great consensus of people" for more government-sponsored space flight, Aldrin, 68, told about 200 people attending the International Space Development Conference Sunday. Such space tourism could generate public support for a reinvigorat-ed government manned-spaceflight program, he said. "That's my message to the astronauts. If they want to go to the moon or Mars, they better get behind (space) tourism," Aldrin, the second man to walk on the moon, said.

Aldrin said he favors creating a lottery for space tourism slots as a Read Bill Knutson in Sunday's Post-Crescent! IT FOR YOURSELF Hearing Aids Help!
