Shannon. The resulting fire burned the tree, six acres of clover and three hog houses before il was brought under control by plowing around the field. Ralph Alhrecht, who lives on the farm, was working in another part of the field when the lightning struck.

The eighty-fifth birthday of H. E. Warner was observed Sunday. Dinner guests at the Warner home for the occasion were family members. Warner was born in Kansas, but moved with his parents, the late Horace B.

and Isabella (Challacomne.) Warner, to Macoupin County, 111., early in his life. After his marriage Nov. 14, 1894, to Miss Florence Kveretts of Jerseyv'ille, he resided south of Jerseyville. 1901 he moved to a farm at Station, near Medora. He retired from farming in 1946 and moved to Medora, following the carpenter trade as long as he was able.

He has been an active worker the Summerville Presbyterian Ihurch and still holds the office of elder. Attend Birthday Celebration Mrs. Jane Shields accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Welch and son to Spring- Sunday to attend a surprise Birthday dinner for his mother, Mrs.

and Mrs. William Komnick of Bunker Hill the maternal grandparents. Komnick left Saturday evening for Columbus. Two Injured In Medora Collision MEDORA. Mrs.

Kenneth Stanton received minor injuries in an accident Saturday afternoon, en route to the Bethel Church to attend a shower. Frank Huff, coming from a side lane, collided with her car, Mrs. Stanton. who suffered a knee injury and a laceration of her lip when two of her teeth went through her lip, and bruises, was taken to a doctor's office in Jerspyvillp for emergency treatment. Huff is said to have suffered a cut on his head.

The front of the Stanton car was sadly damaged. Annual Business Meeting MEDORA. The annual business meeting of the Baptist Church is set for Friday evening at the chui-ch. Sunday school and church officers will be elected and delegates named for Macoupin Baptist Association, which convenes at Modesto the latter part of August. No mid-week service is scheduled.

Attended Dinner and Fish Fry MEDORA. William Smith and his mother, Mrs. Myrtle Smith, attended a dinner and fish fry Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ed Jones, at Roodhouse. It was honoring Mrs.

Jones' son, Richard, and family of Yuma, Ariz. Mrs. Smith, 72, was the oldest present and Billy Joe, 4-months-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Jones, the youngest.

Twenty-six relatives were present. Medora Youth Selected For Khoitry Stars MEDORA Tom Kahl, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. L.

Kahl, Medora, has received word that he has been selected to represent his league in the Khoury Association's AH Star competition. He is to report at Busch Stadium, St. Louis, on Saturday, Aug. 4, at 12:30 p.m. He is a member of the Shipman Atoms (7 to 9 age group).
