City of 7 Comment By Bill Summers Jean Inness Dissolves Kildare's Soap Romance AT CITIZENS FOR FREE Cape Canaveral, A Town The Missiles Claimed FEB. I crystaC'I The Ridge Runner MARGARET O'BRIEN Love went awry BILL SUMMERS Solid hour :0) Dr. Kildare had the faintest touch of soap last night, at times the sort of thing you might find on afternoon radio and TV. But Jean Inness as Nurse Fain made this a solid hour. She portrayed a woman who married a weak man, lost him for 17 years and still wanted to take him back when all he showed up for was a handout.

Nurse Fain was able to keep Nurse Lori Palmer (Margaret O'Brien) from latching on to the same sort of man, Dr. Eddie Moore (Scott Marlowe). Intern Moore had no regard for patients and this disregard nearly cost a man's life. He compounded the problem by trying to get Dr. Kildare (Richard Chamberlain), then Lori to take the blame.

Dr. Gillespie (Raymond Massey) saw through this shallow jerk, as did Nurse Fain from experience. 0 0 We wonder why ABC didn't carry the excellent White House tour with Mrs. Kennedy Wednesday night. It was filmed by CBS with understanding it would be offered to other networks.

NBC went along. ABC presented Naked City, which likely won the rating battle, but ABC merely added to its "rating-happy" image picked up of late. ABC played the poor cousin to the other networks for a long time, then began picking up viewers with a collection of often violent adventure shows. The company president even defended his showing of sex-ridden Bus Stop episode by saying he had no desire to stifle creative talent. We've always liked Howard K.

Smith, but his ABC debut Wednesday seemed more suitable for radio than TV. In trying to assess Soviet and U. S. strengths in propaganda and education in half an hour, too much dependence was placed on oral rather than visual angles. In other words, effect was buried in a mass of talk.

Still, Smith is inclined to express himself and what we like. We look forward to seeing more of him. 0 0 0 The Outlaws last night abandoned the humor kick. "First she tells her mother something in French. Then my mother asks, 'What did you so Miriam tells her what she had said in German.
