FORDHAM WARRIORS New York Oct 23 Nearly ten thousand wildly enthusiastic football fans saw the Fordham University eleven go ddwn to defeat before Georgetown at Fordham this afternoon by the one sided score of 40 to 16 Although the Maroon warriors were outplayed by the visitors they fought gamely against a better drilled and more experienced opponent and they deserved a better fate Fordham could not have beaten Georgetown today but if the Maroon leaders had displayed a little better judgment the local team might have a much better showing The only two touchdowns that Fordham scored were made on forward passes and it was not until the final quarter that the baroon began to use the aerial route extensively although It was apparent from the very outset that the overhead game was the only scored on A slashing attack by the Central forwards that could not be stopped by Old Dominion linemen tells most of the story of the contest To be sure it was Centrals backfleld that made many gains but it was largely because they toofc advantage of the holes offered them by their linemen Woodberry Forest was only able to score two first downs one coming as the result of a five yard penalty inflicted on Central The Mount Pleasanters on the other hand forced the ball to the extent of nineteen first downs As was expected the Virginians attempted many forward passes several of which were successful but all were of the short variety over the line The Central backs showed cleverness in breaking up most of these passes and several were intercepted one for a touchdown by Krupp who ran 40 By JOHN A DUGAN Boston Mass Oct 23 Sons of fair Harvard today gave Charlie Moran and his Centre College gridiron warriors a first class lesson on the American collegiate game when the big Crimson team triumphed over the Danville eleven at Soldiers field by 31 to 14 Harvard taught Centre a few things on the old style game of football wMle Horwet and his teammates also exhibited a few tricks on the open same Moran learned today that his wonder combination can be stopped while he was also an eyewitness of the Harvard gladiators stopping lis ace of aces Bo McMillin McMillin was easily the best offensive player on the Kentucky lirie up but lo stopped badly in front of the powerful charging Crim sop forwards The selection of McMillin as all Arfteric a material in 1919 may have becjp all good and proper on his bril liajfit work in last seasons campaign but if McMillin is still rated as of allKAmerica caliber then Horween is an all America team by himself Thils is not the first time Horween cached his name deep into the history of Harvard football His individual work against Oregon won for the nagt its famous New Years day bat tloover the West In comparison with the back field atrjietes that have shown in the Capital it can be said without any boost inithat Jack Flavin and Gus Malley of the Hilltop eleen deserve serious consideration when speaking if all America backs Both are far better than McMillin showed today Trie Kentucky ace is only a fair broken field runner he lacks the drive that makes up a real good ball carrier and he did not demonstrate anything at kicking His work at throwing the forward pass was mod but not of the flashy style that leaes the im pression of all America ability Weaver Good Weaver another all America selection played at the snapperbackj poaition for Centre starred His brilliant defensive work was a big factor in the Danvilles eleven pa ing today Roberts at fullback easily showed the best work for the Southern tribe while both Runnalley and Montgom i el til iaiivics qidu iiclja a ui uiiiiul game Regardless of the fact that Centre canje from behind with an attack that netCed 7 first downs for their opening touchdown the team did not impress It Is a slow moving machine and has no pep or dash in its attack The arlel route which netted Centres secondhand last touchdown was well executed but the Kentucky team had a little luck in completing the two forward heaves which placed it within striking distance of the goal Centre only completed two other forward heaves after the first two periods The Kentuckians were completely outplayed by Harvard during the closing period Centre gathered 15 first downs 12 of which came in the flVst half while Harvard annexed 22 for its 4 touchdowns and Hor weens 36 yard field goal Harvards careful playing made possible the chances for the Southerners to score The Crimson eleven jumped away to a flying start and registered a touchdown in less than five minutes Er rors of Sedgwick and Koneon Crim sons left wing allowed McMillin to get away for a 20 yard run that open i ed the way for Centres first touch I down while Quarterback Johnsons poir work in knockihg down forward passes made possible Centres second totfehdown Tlje Georgetown team which down edjSortb Carolina State could have easily defeated Centre today while it has more than a possible chance against Harvard as comparative scores will later in the season show Horween today was more than half the Crimson team and Centre could not stop him Harvard played the clipping game and gradually wore down the Centre tribe Centre had been coached to beat the ball and suffered many penalties from their anxiousness runs by McMahon the visiting quar terback featured this afternoons game which Staunton Military Acad emy won by 21 to 0 from the Naval Academy Plebes McMahon took the I ball on the first kick off and ran S5 yards for a touchdown Later in the i same quarter he ran 55 yards from scrimmage landing the
