Ross county Odd Fellows should give him a large vote, for he has been a valuable worker in the order. A POET CELEBRATION. Charlottesville, Va Oct. 7. (Special.) The Poe Memorial Association of the University of Virginia to-day unveiled Zolnay's bust of the poet.This ceremony occurred in the library on this, the fiftieth anniversary of Poe's death.

Two meetings were devoted to the occasion. In the morning, Dr. C. W. Kent, president of the association, presented the bust, and it was officially received by the, university.

The chief address was made by II. W. Ma-bie, and the poem by R. B. Wilson, of Frankfort, Ky.

The evening meeting will be a Poe symposium, and the chief speaker will be. Wm. Fearing Gill, of Paris, who is now in America. Invitations have been sent to literary men and women all over the country, and the gathering is a. notable one.

B. I6d6 Messrs Horrocks and Searles Purchased the Herrnstein Bros. Plant. ON THE FIRST OF JANUARY The Purchasers Will Take Possession and Begin the Manufacture of Desks and Office Furniture. The deal of which the Gazette made note In yesterday's issue as being in progress between Messrs William Hor-rieks and George W.

Searles, of Herkimer, New York, and the firm of Herrnstein to secure possession of the latter's planing mill and machinery, was consummated yesterday evening In the office of Attorney H. W. Woodrow, and the purchasers will take possession of the factory on the first of January next. Previous to the departure of Messrs. Horrocks and Searles on the south bound N.

W. evening train, the former stated to a Gazette representative that the plant here would begin operation the first of the year with a working force of thirty-five or forty men. He was agreeably surprised to discover that the Messrs. Herrnstein had kept their factory in such excellent repair, and said that but little alteration would be required to adapt the factory to the wants and needs of the new company. The matter of obtaining oak timber had quite a little to do with the consummation of the deal, and the gentlemen from the east, upon being informed that good oak could be purchased here in abundance, naturally felt mote inclined to buy the plant.

At their factory in HeKkimer, they use 1,500,000 square feet of lumber, the major portion of which is shipped from West Virginia, where they have two saw mills in operation. Freight rates are high, consequently to be able to procure timber near the factory at a much less cost is quite an item. Mr. Horrocks is the inventor of an improved typewriter desk, which has been the source of much profit, being the first and the best put upon His company also manufacture roll top desks, cases and all factures roll top desks, cases and all furniture. The factory at Herkimer employes one hundred men, and is kept steadily in operation.

In fact, it cannot supply orders, hence the necessity of a branch factory. On Night. Chillicothe's favorite repertoire company will be here all next week at the Masonic opera house. The Keystones come here this season much stronger and larger, and also with a new line of plays. New" specialties, new features, new medleys, new songs, new dances, and r.jore fun than ever before.

The specialties are all very clever and right up to the minute, as Billy Walsh says. The favorites of last season's company, Miss Gertrude Ship-man, the clever leading lady, Lawrence B. McGill, Harry O. Wesley, Billy Walsh and Frank Fisher, are still with the Keystones. The company carries fifteen people and some of the finest scenery ever Been upon the local stage will be shown by them.

The opening play, "Escaped from the Law," is a powerful comedy drama In five acts by C. Walcott Russell. On Monday evening a lady will be admitted free with every paid thirty cent ticket. Be sure and have your seats reserved to-night. Prices, 10, 20 and 30 cents.

7. (Special.) The fifteenth anniversary' of the erection of the first church of the Holy Name will be celebrated at the cathedral to-morrow, kev. M. J. Fltzglbbons, pastor of the church, has made preparations for a fitting celebration of the event, which will include solemn high mass In the morning, at which Archbishop Corrlgan will officiate; a sacred concert in the afternoon, and the benediction of the blenBed sacrament and vespers in the evening.

The sermon In the morning will probably be delivered by Archbishop Ireland. LAUNCHING THE EL CID. Newport News, Va Oct. 7. (Special.) The new steamship El Cid, the fourth and last of the big freighters built here for the Morgan Line, was launched at the ship yard to-day.
