In addition to her husband of 50 years, to whom she married October 8, 1954, family members include a daughter, Cathy F. Sterrett and her friend, Charles Cox of Staunton; a brother and sister-in-law, John C. 'Jay' and Etta Gibson of Staunton; a sister, Frances G.

Layman of Staunton; a grandson, Adam B. Sterrett; a granddaughter, Carrie A. Sterrett, both of Staunton; two sisters-in-law, Mary Gibson, of Richmond and Joyce Gibson, of Waynesboro; five nephews; a niece; a great nephew; two great nieces; special friends, Lawrence and Alice Sterrett Cassada; and a special friend, Holly Noel. She loved her grandchildren, brothers, and sisters. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold E.

and Lewis L. Gibson, a brother-in-law, Russel Layman; and a sister-in-law, Gypsy Floyd John. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday (November 18, 2004) at Oaklawn Mausoleums and Memory Gardens by the Rev. Robert R.

Known to some as Roy E. Carter, age 66 died Monday, Nov. 15th, 2004 in the UVA Hospital. He was born on Feb. 6th, 1938 in Danville, VA to the late Jessie Horace and Eva Ousley Carter and is survived by his loving wife, Doris Schultz Carter, four sons, Roy E.

Carter, Jr. his wife, Dawn of Staunton, Gregory S. Carter, his wife Robin and their expected child of Leesburg, VA, Jeffrey M. Carter of Fairfax, VA, Peter M. Carter of Greenville, two sisters, Nancy Carter and Glenda Gaudette, both of Danville, VA, four grandchildren, Andrew Peter Austin M.

and Evan S. Carter, and a dear friend, Brenda Carter of Weyers Cave, VA. Roy joined the Navy at the age of seventeen and later joined the Air Force, and served in Vietnam as a parachute rigger. In 1977, he retired from the military and brought his family to Staunton, where he worked at the Correctional Center teaching furniture upholstery while establishing his business, Ye Olde Upholstery Shoppe in 1978. He sold his business in 2003.

He was highly respected by his employees, customers, and business colleagues. He loved the "Oldie's But Country Western Music, gardening, restoring old cars, and raising Shetland Ponies. But Roy was most committed to providing for his family and being a devoted grandfather. His family will receive friends from 7:00 to on Wednesday, Nov. 17th at the Hamrick Funeral Home, 18 W.

Roy's life will be celebrated with military honors on Thursday, Nov. 18th at the graveside in Oak Lawn Mausoleums Memory Gardens, Staunton by Pastor David Anderson of the Linden Heights Baptist Church. WILLIAM B. POWERS STUARTS DRAFT, VA. William Brooks 'Bill' Powers, 67, of 3437 Lyndhurst Road, Stuarts Draft, died early Tuesday, November 16, 2004 at his residence. He was born May 8, 1937 in Bellburne, WV, a son of Charles Dranddy and Thelma Abbogail Simmons Powers.

Bill was a member of Crossroads Baptist I Church and a driver for Bryant Dealers. He was a devoted husband and father, and always had a smile on his face. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Juanita Powers, and a brother, Chuck Powers. Surviving are his wife, Shirley A. Powers of Stuarts Draft; his daughter, Kimberly Snyder of Waynesboro; 5 sisters and their spouses, Karen Dan Martin of Verona, Mildred Snyder, Corinne Grover Mathers, Anna Bud Morrison, and Edith Bill Harman, all of West Virginia; 4 brothers their spouses, Jim Powers of West Virginia, Wayne Marcittus Powers of Crozet, Bob Barbara Powers of Verona, and Bernard Martha Powers of Stuarts Draft; and numerous nieces nephews, including special nieces Delores Nichols and Kady Warren.

A service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday a at Crossroads Baptist Church by Rev. Bill Johnson and Mr. Travis Howard, a nephew. Interment will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.

Active pallbearers will be Ted Babinger, Roger Basham, Eldon Campbell, Bob Fultz, Don Halterman, Jamie Hodge, Steve Howery, and Joseph Paiva. Honorary pallbearers will be nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from P.M. Wednesday at McDow Funeral Home, Waynesboro, and at other times at the residence. Todd Brown will conduct candlelight memorial services for 20- year-old Rachel Nicole Good and her unborn child at 7 p.m. Friday at Blue Ridge Church of Christ. According to her mother, Brenda Brown, Good, formerly of Crimora, has been missing since Oct. 18, 2003.

MILDRED "MILLIE" G. FLOYD STAUNTON, VA. Mildred Eileen (Gibson) Floyd, 74, wife of William B. Floyd, Jr. of 1012 Westmoreland Drive, died Monday (November 15, 2004) in the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville.

She was born September 22, 1930 in Portsmouth, OH, daughter of the late Lewis and Dorothy Irene (Peyton) Gibson. Prior to retirement, Mrs. Floyd had been employed by Telephone Company. She had worked at Flowers By Jay for 30 years. She was a charter member of Bethany Presbyterian Church, taught Sunday School, and played the piano and organ.

Julian Broadus Bartley, 95, of 6 Spring died Sunday (November 14, 2004) in Rockingham Memorial Hospital. Born February 28, 1909 in Deerfield, he was a son of William Frazier and Myrtle (Robinson) Bartley. Prior to retirement, he was employed by Echol Brothers. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, and baseball, and was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Margaret (Clayton) Bartley; a son, W.

Gary Bartley; a step son, Harold Clayton; two sisters, Garnett Dula and Naomi Burford; and a brother, Claude Bartley. Surviving are three sons, Nelson B. Bartley and wife Jo Ann of Deerfield, Leon D. Bartley and wife Bonnie of Deerfield, and Charles F. Bartley and wife Cathy of Las Vegas, two daughters, Jackie Graham of Staunton and Betty Lou Reid of Front Royal; 16 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
