He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Hevener of Harrisonburg; two daughters, Carolyn H. Pohowsky and Sharon Hevener, both from Hightown; three grandchildren, Christopher and Ian Pohowsky, and Samantha Greiff; and a brother. Jacob H.

Hevener of Hightown. A memorial service will be conducted at a later date. Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell handled the arrangements. The body was cremated. ANNE DAVIE HEWITT CRAIGSVILLE, VA Anne Davie Hewitt, 84, of 58 Cemetery Lane, died Wednesday, December 24, 2003 at her resi- Mrs. Hewitt was bom April 6, 1919 in Jefferson County, Georgia, the daughter of the late Robert and Mary Holliday Davie. She was a retired flight instructor a member of Peach Tree Road United Methodist Church of Atlanta, Georgia, and attended St. Paul United Methodist Church of Craigsville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Leroy Hewitt, two sisters; Evelyn Spearman and Marian Grover, and one brother, Robert Davie.

Survivors include a son, Dr. James Hewitt and wife Phyllis of New Jersey, two daughters; Barbara Winn of Temple, Georgia, Mary Anne McClure of Marietta, Georgia, two sisters; Carolyn Dvorscak and Francis Langton, both of Atlanta, Georgia, five grandchildren; Evan Bowen, Joe Hewitt and wife Cathy, Elizabeth Hewitt, Les Winn and wife Christine and Christine Winn. A memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. this afternoon (December 28, 2003) at the St. Paul United Methodist Church, Craigsville, by the Rev.

Harley Bender. Burial will follow at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, Craig Craigsville, Va. 24430.

Reynolds Funeral Service of Waynesboro is in charge of Death Notices Mary F.Crawford, 89 FORT DEFIANCE Mary Rae Ferrenberg Crawford died Thursday (Dec. 25, 2003). She was born Aug. 23, 1914, to William Garfield and Myrtle Newell Ferrenberg in Illinois. She worked as a cashier and hostess at Mrs.

Rowe's Family Restaurant and Ingleside Hotel and Resort, in addition to helping her husband run a store at Augusta Military Academy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Crawford was preceded in death by her husband, William Bourland Crawford and a half-brother, Edward Ferrenberg. She is survived by her sister, Wilma Steele of Huntington, three half-brothers, James and Mack of Pennsylvania, and Richard Ferrenberg of Maryland; and her sons. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m.

Monday at Augusta Stone Presbyterian Church in Fort Defiance. Burial will follow the service. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Hamrick Funeral Home. Maurice N. Hester 78 VERONA Maurice Neville Hester husband of Eugenia (Beckley) Hester, of 69 Riverside died at 6:25 p.m.

Thursday (Dec. 25, 2003) at his residence. He was born on Sept. 9, 1925, in Henrico County, a son of the late Maurice Neville Hester Sr. and Irene Belle (Davis) Hester.

Prior to retiring on June 1, 1990, he was employed by American Safety Razor Co. In addition to his wife, family includes a daughter, Pamela Hargrave of Mount Crawford' and two sons, Paul of Fries, and Colin Hester of Grottoes; and a sister, Genevieve H. Voitlein of Duck-town, Tenn. The body was cremated, and burial will be private in Augusta Memorial Park. A memorial service will be conducted at 1 1 a.m.

Saturday in the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, after which the family will receive friends. HughF. Patterson 79 VALRICO, Fla. Hugh Floyd Patterson Sr. died Friday (Dec. 19.

2003) at Brandon Memorial Hospital. Mr. Patterson was born May 14,1924, in Augusta County to Joseph Cyrus Patterson and Mary Ann Stridden Mr. Patterson was the area supervisor for Polk and Highlands counties for the Florida Department of Revenue. Mr.

Patterson was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Hoffman Patterson. Survivors include his son, Hugh Floyd Patterson Jr. of Lakeland; two daughters, Marcy E. McClan-han of Valrico and Louise Ann Wallin of Springfield, and a sister, Rosa Lee Martin of Negley, Ohio. A viewing was conducted at the Heath Funeral Home in Lakeland with a service at Oakhill Memorial Park in Lakeland.

CatMeenV. Corbin, 92 WAYNESBORO Cathleen Virginia Corbin of 302 Old Hermitage died Saturday (Dec. 27, 2003) at Oak Grove Manor in Hermitage. She was born Oct. 1.

1911, in Augusta County, daughter of the late John C. and Margaret E. Morris Coiner. Together with her husband, she owned and operated the Corbin Grocery in Hermitage for 61 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Noah H.

"Bud" Corbin; a daughter, Mary Baker; two sisters, Mae McDaniel and Grace NetT; and two brothers, Ray and Fay Coiner. Surviving are a daughter, Doris C. Gray of Waynesboro; two sons, James A. of North Pole, Alaska, and Raymond Corbin of Waynesboro; a brother, Carl Coiner of Waynesboro; and three sisters, Becky Dickerson of Earlsville, N.Y., Mary Miller, and Sibyl Clements, both of Waynesboro. A service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m.

Monday at the Hermitage Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at McDow Funeral Home, Waynesboro. James N.

Brooks 56 WAYNESBORO James N. Brooks Jr. of 8 Old Tower Lane, died Friday (Dec. 26, 2003) at Augusta Medical Center. McCutcheon Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Helen N. Marquardt, 87 STUARTS DRAFT Helen Nash Marquardt of 20 Highland Hill Lane, died at 8:00 p.m. Friday (Dec. 26, 2003) at her residence. Mrs.

Marquardt was born April 18, 1916, in Lofton, the daughter of the late Clay W. and Minnie B. Hatter Nash. She retired from the United States Government. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Marquardt; and a brother, Daniel P.

Nash. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Funeral Service with burial following in Mount Carmel Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from p.m. Monday at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Funeral Service.

Anne D. Hewitt, 84 CRAIGSVILLE Anne Davie Hewitt of 58 Cemetery Lane, died Wednesday (Dec. 24, 2003) at her residence. Mrs. Hewitt was born April 6, 1919, in Jefferson County, the daughter of the late Robert and Mary Holliday Davie.

Tuesday, December 30, 2003 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Funeral Service by Pastor Alton Wilson with burial following in Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Gary Coffey, Gary Demastus, Michael Claytor, Ashley Almarode, Jon Hatter, R. J. Fitzgerald and Paul Corbin.

VERONA, VA Maurice Neville Hester, 78, husband of Eugenia (Beckley) Hester, of 69 Riverside Verona, died at 6:25 p.m. Thursday (Dec. 25, 2003) at his residence. He was bom on Sept. 9, 1925, in Henrico County, a son of the late Maurice Neville Hester, and Irene Belle (Davis) Hester.

He was a World War II veteran serving in the U. S. Army Air Corps. "Mo" and "Becky" celebrated 57 years of marriage on August 15, 2003. Prior to retiring on June 1, 1990, he was employed by American Safety Razor Co.

for 11 years. He was a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church. In addition to his wife, family includes a daughter and two sons, Pamela Hargrave and special friend, Marvin Liskey, of Mt. Crawford, Paul Hester of Fries, and Colin and Teresa Hester of Grottoes; a sister, Genevieve H. Voitlein of Ducktown, TN; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

The body was cremated, and burial will be private in Augusta Memorial Park. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 3, 2004) in the Emmanuel Episcopal Church by the Rev. Edward M.

DEFIANCE, VA Mary Rae Ferrenberg Crawford, 89 of Ft Defiance, VA, passed from us Christmas morning to join her husband, William Bourland Crawford, Jr. who died September 1,2003. She met William in 1937 and had been married for 63 years. She missed him greatly and said Christmas would never be the same without him. Mary was bom August 23, 1914 to William Garfield and Myrtle Newell Ferrenberg in Illinois.

She is survived by her older sister, Wilma Steele of Huntington, PA. Their mother died when Mary was eight, and Myrtle's sister Rachael came to raise them. Later Mary's father married again, and she is also survived by three half brothers, James Ferrenberg of PA, Richard Ferrenberg of MD, Mack Ferrenberg of PA, a sister in-law, Clare Crawford of Harrisonburg, VA and her sons and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a half brother Edward Ferrenberg. Mrs.

Crawford worked as a cashier and hostess at Mrs. Rowe's family Restaurant and Ingleside Hotel and Resort. She also worked with her husband, William to run the store at Augusta Military Academy and to Shepard their herd of prize winning Hampshire Sheep. Mary will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Crawford family plot, after a service in the Old Stone Fortress-Meeting House where the Crawford's who were founders have been nurtured, christened, educated, married, sheltered from Indian attacks, comforted during several wars, served others and been buried since the 1700's. Their resting place is in sight of their home of so many years.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 29, 2003 at Augusta Stone Presbyterian Church in Ft Defiance, VA. Arrangement by Hamrick Funeral Home. HARRISONBURG, VA Richard Washington Hevener, age 81, of Harrisonburg, died Wednesday, December 24, 2003 at Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community. Born June 12, 1922 at Hightown, VA he was the son of the late Richard W.

Hevener, and Delia Mae (Hofsess) Hevener. He married Dorothy Ellen Wimer of Blue Grass, VA on December 8, 1943. A graduate of VPI, Mr.Hevener piloted 35 missions with the U.S. Air Force as a First Lieutenant during WWII. An aeronautical engineer with General Electric, he retired after 35 years of service, having been inducted into G.E.'s Propulsion Hall of Fame in 1987.

Mr. Hevener, a Shriner and member of the Highland Masonic Lodge 110 for more than 50 years, served as secretary of the Lodge for 8 years. He also served on the Board of Supervisors in Highland County and was a member of the Pisgah Presbyterian church. moked at lifetime, ey would eto do so.
