of Postmasters which opened Its convention here today announced through its officers that a delegation will present a petition to President Taft on Monday asking that all fourth class postmasters in the states south of the Ohio and west of the Mississippi River be placed on the civil service classified list It is stated that the petition will contain the signatures of 20000 postmasters The civil service system Is now In operation in the fourteen States north of the Ohio and east of thp Mississippi For Readjustment of Pay Foreseeing the coming of 1 cent postage and of free box rents in the smaller cities and towns President Barry urged a readjustment of the pay in offices of the third and fourth class He said Some very Interesting figures may be gathered by reviewing the last official register It shows that out of 49672 offices of the fourth class 25817 pay less than 200 per year The third district lias the largest number of this class fth 61S and out of the number 4206 pay less
