Y. at to To What Lengths Will They Go? By Edith Mudgett Hines It seems that women will rise to greater heights and go to greater lengths in the name of 'sweet charity" than for any other cause. If some prominent society woman is seen frequenting the back entrance and freight elevator of a popular hostelry, a choice bit of gossip is ruined when it is found she is not making application for: a position, but arrangements for a patriotic tea. Neither may Dame Rumor get a kick out of seeing a harassed looking matron rushing into a banking institution promptly as the portals swing open for the first depositor. Money is not needed to bail out friend husband, nor to make the last instalment on the motorcar; she is merely on hand to accost the said depositor in hope that he may purchase a pound of "home made for her worthy cause.

These postwar days have found women taking a postgraduate course. in salesmanship. They will tell you they dislike it, but are willing to sacrifice themselves upon the altar of charity. A young matron was asked recently by a lay member of an organization what women do in executive board meetings.
