Jurisdiction A defense fund Is being raised by Wash lngton automoblllsts to defray the ex penses of John A Iuts In conducting an appeal on a charge of violating the speed laws of Maryland In proceedings which will constitute a test case to determine whether the State of Maryland or the United States government through the War Department has jurisdiction over the Conduit road Cot A Winter acting president of the United States Trust Company has been appointed treasurer of the fund The Kuts test case will come up in few weeks at court In Rockvffle Md 11 will be tried before Judge Henderson on the same day that a similar case known as the Walker case will be tried This will be early In November The United States government through the Department of Justice has asked to be which has causedfJSecfe tary Taft the AttorneyfeheralMary land diicers and the public worry and excitement during the last feWinonths the policing of the Conduit road was tackled by the committee on municipal legislation of the Chamber of Commerce at Its meeting In the offices of the chamber yesterday afternoon It was the consensus of opinion of this committee whose chairman is Chapin Brown that Congress should be asked to provide for the policing of this road and that the policing should beleft either to the War Department the Interior Department or to the District Commissioners A reso lution to this effect will be presented to Congress The regulatlon lof Washingtons street railways was also considered by the com mittee It was held that a special com Tciay or so mission oi men tnorougniy conversant with the operation of street railways should be appointed by the government to supervise Washingtons railways and to effect Improvement in the system if possible The question was the new Union Station have been set by both the Pennsylvania and the Baltimore and Ohio railroads The Baltimore and Ohio will run trains Into the terminal October 2 and the Pennsylvania by November 18 These dates were set yesterday following a conference between Vice President Res of the Pennsylvania and Vice President Potter of the Baltimore and Ohio and other officials of the roads at the Union
