McKenna rushed for 86 yards in 14 carries for the game, and Oder's seventh consecutive placement gave NC its final 42-0 margin. The Green Wave defense stymied Utica's offense with only 24 yards rushing. Sophomore George Layton was the top ground gainer with 27 yards in two carries, Dennis Magers had 21 yards in 13 totes. But quarterback Hank Waters was chased around most of the game and finished with a minus 14 yards on the ground in 14 carries. Waters nit three of 10 passes for 41 yards, all to Mike Smith.

The scrappy Redskins of Coach John Skladany, now 1-5 overall and 1-4, in the Lickinq County Leaguethrew a scare or two into the Newark Catholic fans by recovering two Irish bobbles in the first quarter. But 's speedy Chris Marshall, Newark Catholic's super-talented senior, put on a remarkable display in the second quarter as the Irish exploded for three acores in the final six minutes of the half. Marshall, a 170-pound squirter, scored four touchdowns on the night, all three of Catholic's scores in the second quarter, in rushing for 133 yards in 20 carries for the game. Junior Roger Harris interception and 21-yard return set the stage for NC's first TD, a 36-yard Burst up the middle bv Marshall with 5:58 remaining in the first half. Marshall's 43-yard punt return was the key to Newark's second score, a five-yard jaunt by Marshall behind fullback I)an McKenna.

Then late in the first half, junior Chris Bell faked a punt for the Irish on fourth and 10, and lofted a 38-yard completion to Harris to set up NC's final score of the half. Marshall scored from the 10-yard line with 1:04 remaining until intermission and Jim Oder was perfect with bis third placement, pumping Catholic's lead to 21-0 at half-time. Newark Catholic coach J.D. Graham, who watched his No. 1 ranked Green Wave notch its sixth straight victory of the season, expressed concern over the Green Wave's mistakes.

Catholic lost two fumbles, had a pass intercepted, and totaled 100 E's in eight penalites. "I we learned from our mis-3 tonight," he said, but again expressed pleasure with the Irish defense which posted its third consecutive shutout. Senior quarterback Dave Miller also received words of praise from Graham on his second half passing. For the night.
