"There was nowhere to go. I wanted to change the stereotype of actors being conceited aU the time. Plumbers use wrenches, actors use their looks. But 'Taxi' kept making negative statements about acting. "I was losing my self-confidence," he says.

"Not only was the character going down the drain, but me too. I had to make a move before becoming a has-been." Conaway is now making a big production over "Wizards," and the series itself is a big production. It takes up five soundstages at the Warner Burbank Studios.
