10 Sunday JMS, 17 '8. IUUUUUUI Finally he Ttyirsay Evening ii ii ii mi iiiiumniumiuuiiiimiuiuiULP It's taken character actor Sorrell Booke a long time to gain nationwide recognition as an actor, but the road to stardom has been an exciting one. Sorrell, who's in his mid-fifties, finally 'made it' in his portrayal of Boss Hogg on CBS-TV's hit series, "The Dukes of Hazzard." It seems that those Duke cousins Luke, Bo and Daisy never let up in their campaign to frustrate and outwit the country's corrupt system, headed by Boss Hogg and his pawn, Sheriff Rosco Coltrane. Sorrell is a native of Buffalo, N.Y., and it was there that he started his acting career on radio when he was just six years old. At 16, he entered Columbia University in New York City, where he studied for a bachelor's degree along with performing in Shakespearean dramas with the drama club.

At 19, he entered Yale School of Drama as a directing major. He remained for three years, then acted in summer stock in Province-town, Mass. Booke then returned to Columbia in 1952 after receiving his master's degree and before joining the armed forces. On his return to civilian life, he got his first Off Broadway play, "The White Devil," and, simultaneously, his first television part, in "Omnibus." He made his Broadway debut in "The Sleeping Prince," and has subsequently appeared in over 100 plays, utilizing his versatility in dialects as well as his acting skill. A television part in "Route 66" took Sorrell to Hollywood for the 12:30 0OO(E) Baretta: "Who Killed Cock Robin?"
