Freeman Delivers Literary Lecture Before Womans Club Special to The Washington Post Richmond Va May 13 Richmond Chapter United Daughters of the Confederacy met Wednesday morning in Lee CamjD Hallu Among the visiting daughter was Mrs Nathan Eller president of the Virginia division who made an Interesting address Other State officers present wereMrs Cabell Smith or Martinsville and Mrs Conrad Arrangements were completed for the concert to be given in the Auditorium Thursday evening for the relfefiund which will be used to assist neex Confederate women A letter wasft eceived from Mr Hayes whose wife was the eldest daughter of Jefferson Davis president of the Confederate States in which he gave approval of the movement of Richmond Chapter to place in perpetual care the Davis lot in Holly wood Cemetery A committee was appointed by the chapter president Mrs Randolph to protest against a lecture recently delivered at Richmond College In which Jefferson Davis lineage Avas alluded to in an unfavorable manner Mrs White and Mrs Cor ley were named as a committee to place in proper condition the mound surrounding the monument to Gen A Hill for Memorial day Mrs Edgar Taylor will decorate the monument of Gen WJckham in Monroe park and the Junior Hollywood Memorial Asociation the Lee monument for the same occasion Resolutions of sympathy were passed for the family of the late Col SKelton and also for the family of the late Capt Frank Cunningham Mrs A Blenner gave a brief outline of the work accomplished at the meetings of the district committee which are being held throughout the State A delightful cruise along the James River was made a week ago by Henry Anderson and his guests on the OW Dominion steamship Smithfleld The party spent Sunday at Fort Moftroe and silgljt of other historical points Dr Douglas Freeman gave a most Interesting lecture Monday afternoon before the members of the Womans Club on Ivan Furgenieff Dr Freeman compared th works of this great Russian novelist with those of his contemporaries and discussed the qualities of his style and power in the literary world He concluded his lecture with a summing up of Furgenleffs attributes as an author and a man and quoted from several of his best known works The club parlors were unusually attractive being decorated with quantities of spring flowers The hostesses for the afternoon were firs Conquest Mrs Addison Holladay Mrs John A Lamb and Mrs Urner Mrs Dashiell was chairman of the afternoon and special guests for the occasion were Miss Lefroy of Dublin Ireland Mrs Caperton Miss May Davis Mrs Oppen helmer Mrs A Crenshaw and Mrs John Wise Mrs Eleanor Clopper who spent the winter in Washington has returned to her home in Roekville An engagement of much Interest to Richmond and
