Cathy, along with World light heavyweight boxing champion Bob Foster, was guest of honor Tuesday night at the weekly University of New Mexico Lobo Boosters' meeting. Since it is against national women's swimming rules for girls to receive athletic scholarships, the award to Cathy was in the form of a university grant. Mechem said he planned to ask the WAG to change its rules and make it possible for women to compete, and Cathy said she would join him in the effort. Mechem called Miss Carr "the greatest woman athlete in the history of Albuquerque and probably New Mexico. She is the best in her event in the world."
