Podres Looks Sharp In Relief as Tigers Topple Twins, 9-4 Agee's Running Ability Triggers Chisox' 6-2 Win Over Yankees By MIKE RATHET Associated Press Sports Writer It's taken two months and two leagues but Johnny Podres finally has pitched nine innings.

Podres, acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers last month, continued his strong pitching for Detroit Wednesday night as he posted his second straight victory with 3 1-3 innings of one-hit relief work in the Tigers' 9-4 triumph over Minnesota. The 33-year-old now has made six appearances for the Tigers and allowed only four hits and two runs while running his work for the season to nine innings. Over the first month he had pitched only 1 2-3 innings for the Dodgers. And he didn't like it. Arm Feels Good "I just want to go somewhere where I can pitch," Podres, said when he was traded.

threw the ball good all spring and my arm feels good now. But you get out of shape pitching 1 2-3 1 innings in a month." Podres, who has been plagued the last two years by arm trouble, figured as a starter with the Dodgers during the Sandy Koufax-Don Drysdale holdout siege but became expendable when the Dodger aces signed. The Tigers grabbed him for cash and a player to be named later. Against the Twins, Podres came on in the fourth inning with two men on and two out. He walked Jim Hall, but bore down and got Tony Oliva a grounder to first.

He allowed only a single by Harmon Killebrew before leaving for a pinch hitter in the eighth. Elsewhere, Baltimore outlasted California 9-7 in 10 innings. Kansas City walloped Cleveland 8-3, the Chicago White Sox downed the New York Yankees 6-2 and Washington whipped Boston 6-3 before the Red Sox took the night cap 5-0. Supplies Key Hit Al Kaline drove in four runs for the Tigers but Jerry Lumpe supplied the key hit with a tworun single in the seventh inning that snapped a 3-3 tie. Jerry Adair won it for the Orioles with a tie-breaking pinchhit single in the 10th after Baltimore had filled the bases on singles by Paul Blair and Dave Johnson and a walk to Andy Etchebarren.

Luis Aparicio's sacrifice fly produced an insurance run. Boog Powell hit two homers and Andy Etchebarren one but the Orioles still had to play catch up, tying the Angels 7-7 in the eighth on a double by Brooks Robinson and a pinch-hit single by Frank Robinson. The A's tagged Indians' starter John O' donogahue and two successors for 13 hits, including Halas, Gilmer Not In Contact With Ladd and Faison NEW YORK (AP) Coaches George Halas of the Chicago Bears and Harry Gilmer of the Detroit Lions said Wednesday their National Football League teams had not been in contact with two former American Football League stars who now are free agents. The have draft rights to Ernie Ladd and the Lions have rights to Earl Faison. Both defensive linemen played out their options with San Diego of the AFL last season and befree agents May 1.

"When you negotiate with a dissatisfied said Halas, "there is no guarantee he won't be dissatisfied with you in a year or so." Griffith-Archer Bout Will be Televised NEW YORK (AP) The middleweight championship bout between titleholder Emile Griffith and Joey Archer, both of New York, scheduled for Madison Square Garden July 13 will be nationally televised to homes with only New York blacked out, it was announced Tuesday. AMERICA'S FIRST PREMIUM MALT LIQUOR SCHLITZ DE MALT Available at Your Favorite Spot Distributed by DOUGHERTY SALES INCORPORATED Appleton homers by Ed Charles and Ken Harrelson and triples by Dick Green and Danny Cater. Green's triple and a single by Joe Nossek in the sixth inning broke a 3-3 tie and put Kansas City ahead to stay. Decisive Run Tom Tresh's error and singles by Tom Agee, Bill Skowron and Floyd Robinson gave the White Sox two runs in the third inning. Then Agee scored what turned out to be the decisive run in the fifth when he walked, stole second and came all the way home on Bill Skowron's grounder.

Two-run doubles by Bob Chance and Dick Nen in the last two innings brought the Sena- Phils Sweep Doubleheader From Chicago CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1 the winning run. Chicago's Lee Thomas was cut down at home plate on a relay from Tony Gon-1 zalez to Dick Groat to Bob Uecker for the final out of the game as he tried to score the tying run. Mays' two-run homer in the first inning was an inside-thepark shot that broke off Mack Jones' glove as he and Hank, Aaron collided. Willie McCovey followed with a solo homer and Jim Davenport hit one in the sixth. Mays' homer pushed him within four of Ted Williams, who is third on the all-time list.

The Giants used three relief pitchers to stave off a last-ditch Atlanta rally in the ninth with Lindy McDaniel coming on to get the last two outs. Struck Out Nine Koufax struck out nine and walked just one in gaining his ninth victory decisions. He got the only run he needed in the seventh when Willie Davis tripled and came home on Bob Tolan's error. Dave Giusti and Claude Raymond combined on Houston's five-hit shutout of the Reds, who, dropped their fifth in a row. Jim Wynn drove in one run with a single and Rusty Staub homered for the other Astro run.
