"They had eight men lined up By STEV ELLIS Sports Writer Bruising fullback Roger Andrachik bulled for a pair of touchdowns and a veteran Baldwin-Wallace defensive unit kept Muskingum's offense backed up inside its own 30-yard line for most of the game as the fifth ranked Yellow Jackets escaped "from McCona'gha Stadium yesterday with a hard-earned 17-6 victory.

The Muskies threatened again on their next possession, reaching the B-W 17, before Jamie Morckal's 34-yard field goal attempt was blocked. Muskingum ended a six-quarter scoring drought shortly after when Schiefer's attempted punt from deep in his own territory was blocked and recovered by Muskie' linebacker Jim Pottmeyer on the B-W 5-yard line. Two plays later, Grenert fired a perfect strike to flanker Gary Martin in the right corner of the end zone with just 29 seconds on the game clock.

Despite the last quarter drives by Muskingum, the ork scrimmage and it made it difficult to run. Maybe in hindsight, we should have thrown the ball more. "It's a credit to our defense that the final score was what it was," Christopher continued. "They really hit hard. It was their best effort of the season." The Yellow Jackets, now 3-0 on the season, broke open a scoreless duel late in the first half when linebacker Gary Monda stepped in front of a Mark Dickerhoof pass at the Muskie 25-yard line and returned it 12 yards to the 13.

Four plays later, Andrachik went over standing up with only 48 seconds left in the half. Robinson's PAT made it 7-0. Baldwin Wallace built its lead to 10-0 midway through the third period when Robinson connected from 21-yards out with his field goal. The B-W scoring drive consumed nearly eight minutes of the quarter and took 15 plays. The Yellow Jackets closed out their scoring early in the fourth quarter, marching 50 yards in nine plays, with Andrachik going over with 10:34 left in the game.

Muskingum finally got its offense moving on the ensuing kickoff. Junior quarterback Steve Grenert, who replaced Dickerhoof at the end of the third quarter, directed the Muskies on a dive that reached the B-W 29-yard line before an incomplete pass on fourth and eight failed. A 16-yard run by fullback Matt Huffman, and a 21-yard pass from Grenert to Yellow Jackets still held a considerable edge in the final statistics, including a 15 to 8 edge in first downs. The visitors, who entered the game averaging nearly 190 yards passing, elected to keep the ball on the ground and did so effectively, rushing for 251 yards, including a game high 107 by Andrachik in 27 carries, quarterback Joe Surniak, who was among the top conference passers coming into the game, put the ball in the air just 12 times and completed five for 42 yards. The Muskies, who operated without star wide receiver Terry Kelley, were held to 88 yards on the ground, and senior tailback John McCarty, who entered the contest as the OC's top rusher, was limited to 16 .4 Hayes Gets 200th Buckeyes Win, 34-28 II yards in only five carries.

Huffman was the top ball carrier for Muskingum with 54 yards on 18 carries. Dickerhoof, who Christopher said is still his No. 1 quarterback despite a second -straight poor outing, hit just four of 10 passes for 35 yards, while Grenert completed four of 11 for 59 yards. Each was intercepted once. "I'm not disappointed in the kids," Christopher said from his office outside the quiet Muskingum lockerroom.

"They played good football, and I think they know it. They'll be back." The loss, before a sparse Parents' Weekend crowd, dropped the Muskies to 1-1-1 on the year. Ohio State recovered Bledsoe's onside kickoff, but the Bears' defense forced the Buckeyes to punt. Baylor regained possession on its own 15 with 48 seconds remaining. "However, on the second play, Ohio State defensive end Kelton Dansler hit Smith at his own 3 and the Baylor quarterback fumbled.

Mark Sullivan, the Buckeyes' middle guard, recovered at the 10 with 36 seconds left. It was a bitter loss for Baylor, which has lost its three games 'by a total of 12 points this season. Once Schlichter threw his second interception of the game and eighth in three starts as a collegian, Hayes reverted to his long-established rushing attack the rest of the way. At times after a bitter loss, Hayes has conducted such brief meetings with the press or even skipped post game press conferences. "We figured Ohio State could move the ball on the ground." said Teaff. "We didn't figure they could pass very well.

We thought we could pass on them because we have a diversified attack." Baylor quarterback Steve Smith riddled the Buckeyes' secondary for 249 yards and three touchdowns. But in the end, it was Ohio State's potent ground game, good for 81 plays and 373 yards, that wore down Baylor. "We did not have many breakaways," Hayes said of his favorite weapon, "but we had good, consistent runs. I thought we played well on offense." The game may have cost both their sides their best running backs. Ohio State tailback Ron Springs faces possible knee injury.

Springs was to undergo x-rays on his knee. He gained 65 yards before yielding to Calvin Murray, a sophomore who wound up with 94 yards. Hayes called his 200th victory at Ohio State the most interesting in his 28-year football coaching career with the Buckeyes. "Usually, our defense bails out our offense. Today it was the reverse," a somber, nearly inaudible Hayes told newsmen after the triumph. The two are the only coaches in major college football history to post 200 triumphs at one school. Stagg achieved 243 victories in 41 University of Chicago seasons.

Baylor's Grant Teaff, despite three losses by a total of 12 points, lost none of his humor. When he spotted a horde of newsmen in the Bears' dressing room, Teaff said. "This looks like a lynching mob. Everybody in the stadium must be here." Michigan stuck to the ground most of the game from both the power-I and wishbone formations, but both Leach and Dickey threw key passes when they were needed. The victory gave Woody Hayes his 200th career victory with the Buckeyes in his 28th season. Amos Alonzo Stagg of the University of Chicago was the only other major college coach to achieve 200 triumphs at one school.

Schlichter, who earlier had thrown a pair of costly interceptions, unloaded a 51-yard bomb to Doug Donley that gave the heavily favored Buckeyes the lead for good in the third quarter. Schlichter also ran 24 yards for the opening touchdown for Ohio State, 2-1-0. Baylor suffered its third consecutive loss this season. However, the Bears forged a 21-17 lead at halftime, stunning the 58th straight sellout crowd in Ohio Stadium. Baylor quarterback' Steve Smith tossed a pair of first-half touchdown passes, throwing 19 yards to Gordon Marshall and 15 yards to Mike Fisher.

Duke managed only 27 net yards rushing in 29 carries, while the Wolverines ground out 388 yards rushing topped by Huckleby's 84 in 22 carries.

His total lifted his career yardage to 2,115. That leaves him 20 short of moving into sixth place on the all-time Michigan rushing list ahead of fabled Tom Harmon. Huckleby dove over from the 1 in the second quarter and again early in the third. His yardage total put him at 2,141 yards. Harmon, who played in 1938-40, had 2,134 yards.

The victory ran Michigan's record to 3-0 while Duke dipped to 2-1. Michigan drove 50 yards in 11 plays, all on the ground, to score on its first possession with fullback Russell Davis plunging over from the 1. It was the Wolverines' bal-Igame from there on out as they scored six of the first seven times they had the ball. The Bishops had marched 70 yards to take a 12-7 lead in the muddy battle midway through the fourth quarter before the hosts mounted their winning drive. The Cougars took the ensuring kickoff following the Rosecrans touchdown and moved to the Bishop's 45, where on second and three, Stimpert swept and for 22 yards, moving the ball to the 23-yard line. On the play, the Bishops were charged with a late hit, giving the Cougars a first and 10 at the 13-yard line with just over three minutes to play. Two more rushing plays netted the Cougars just two yards, and a delay of game penalty made it third and 13 on the 16-yard line. After an incomplete pass, the hosts got a break, when on fourth down, Rosecrans was charged with pass interference, putting the ball on the 5 and an automatic first down.

The Bishops' defense put up a valiant effort to keep the Cougars out of the end zone, holding them to just three yards on three running plays, but on third and one after a Rosecrans' face mask penalty Stimpert dove over the middle of the line for the go-ahead touchdown.
