He wns indicted some time ugo and mnde bond, but forfeited his bond and left the country. Recently his bondsmen learned he had returned to Sand mountain and his capture followed T. J.

I often wonder why it is that while seme hearts nre made 10 bleed ihnt others go on their way rejoicing. On Sunday the body of Curry Bryant was brought out here for interment, he having died as the result of nn operation for nppendi- cits. Mr. Bryant had been work ing in Atlanta for the past four years nnd had come home to spend his twenty-first birthday with fii widowed mother who resides in Attnlla. After spending almost a week with relatives he was to re turn to Atlanta nnd take up his work but on the morning he was to start he got up sick.

A physician was summoned. After the course of two or three dajs as he gradually grew worse nn operation was decided upon and so he was carried on nu ambulance to the Gadsden infirmary, where the operation took place, as the result of which 0 few days later he died. Rev. J. M.

Solly of Gadsden conducted the funeral service. Rev. Marable filled his regular appointment here Sunday. Ophir. Health good at this writing.

Weather little bit dry nnd the hottest I ever saw at this season of the year. Crops are looking fine, the weather has beeM so hot that even crops seem to be muk ng rapid -fprogress except oats, which will be very short (his time. B. Driskill recently a boy. The ice cream supper at A. C. Crumley's Suturday night wns well attended nnd seemed to be enjoyed by everyone.

Mrs, Eliza Horton, widow of the late Jesse B. Horton, died nt her home in Lebanon Monday night. She has been feeble for some time owing to advanced nge. She wns born September 17. i8j(1.

and was nearly B5 years old. The funeral was conducted from Mt. Ilcrmon church Tuesday and large number of people nttendnd ns the deceased had many friends nnd relatives nil over the county. She leaves a son and four daughters, Doc Horton, Mrs. J.

R. Baxter, Mrs. Preston Stafford nnd Mrs. A. G.

Davis. whole is very good. Herman Lunlsey. a young man of this place, i critically ill with appendicitis. We hope that the means used mny pfcve successful in effecting his recovery.

John Durham und sons have re turned from Oklahoma, where they have been for the pat four months. Misses Ida nnd Mae, daugntera of J. M. Durham are spending tlie summer at homo. The normal at this place is doi ig excellent work.

There seem to be a great deal of enthusiasm manifested among the students. Misses Blanch and Il. Hall give social Friday night. A majority of our young people nt tended. Refreshments were served and good time generally huudrl around.

The citizen met Saturday in .1 mass school meeting and re-elctel II. M. Weaver principal of this school for the ousueing year. Mi.s Ermic Durham was elected assistant teacher. Chavies has had .1 fine school during the last scsston nnd the patron are optimistic concerning the prospects for the coming term, which will open the Monday in September.

A number of our young folks at- tended Hie singing at Blake Sun day. They report nn etijojabla time. Baseball at Crossville. The Crossville ball teu: iie ngiiin Saturday evening iwvJ played Tenbrocck. The Tenbroeck boys had the advantage of team to some extent, as they had been practising quite a lot and toe Crossville boy have practiced bus liitle this season.

It was close game. Crossville held Teubroet: dow for the first few innings, when the game turned in favor of Tenbrocck, the score being 7 to 5. Crossville did fine for their second gume. There was a large crowd of lao'es present, who seemed to enjoy ihe game very much. The Yucca baseball club played Wanvilleon the former's diamond lasf Saturday, and through Ihe great pitching of Thomas Howes mid Edgar Stone and the playing of the latter nt second base won by the decisive score of 14 to The feature of the game in the batti.ig was a home run drive over Jeic field by Edgar Stone. The most remarkable feature of the examination wis the work done by Mr. Annie Shelton Vann who holding no certificate before, had to remain on examination for three days, taking all branches nnd yet made a generul uverage of 90 per cent, the highest made by anyone J.

V. Ci ttTis, Supt. Miss Rebecca Jamison Hos- tess. On Monday afternoon nt the home of Mr. Jamison on Scott street, Mi.s Rebecca, the youngest daughter, entertained a few of her little friends with tin out door psrty, in honor of her guest Miss Katheline Boyd of Gadsuen.

Numerous out door games were enjoyed for several hours, nod then delightful refreshments were served which the young folks present enjoyed vpry much. Mis Rebecca as a 'pleasant little hoittess and entertained her friends delightfully. Sand Mountain has Boy Teacher. Ruperc Lowry who, reiile nt Section nnd is a student of Section school, which he entered little better than two years ago, and has never attended nny other school, took the state examination in April hit and received a teachers' certificate. This is the youngest boy in Jack son county und probably in the state to hold 11 teacher's certificate from the State Board of Examiners.

He is just 12 years old. Reduced Rates. For the Masonic celebration nt Allen's spring Wednesday, June 2S, the railroad has made the following roundtrip rates: Valley Head, 25 cents; Fort' Payne, 25 cents; Collbran, 50 cents; Porter-ville, 65 cents; Collinsvillc, S5 cents. A large attendance of the membership of the order is anticipated and a good time is in store for all who nre present. Postmaster Mulone has jut received notice that the office will be located in the Banning building owned by Joe Nix, nnd has orders to be prepared to move the new quarters by July 1st.

Tlie new location, while not the most convenient that could be selected is a long ways to be preferred to the old one. Some person left his key in his posiollke box some two weeks ago. The key is on a riog with fifteen other keys and there is nothing to identify the owner. The keys ore are at the postoflice awaiting identification nnd claim. Mrs.

McEllmney, mother of Mrs. Tom Brock, died at her home on Lookout mountain Tuesday night, aged more than eighty years. Burial will take placo nt Mt. Olive church two miles south of Fort Payne. Will Jncoway and T.

S. Nappier have just finished harvesting a very fine crop of wheat on the former's place below town. They expect to get between fifteen and twenty bushels to the acre when, it is threshed. Wanted to buy four or live 'hundred bundles of good fodder. Rural Carrier, route one, Fort Payne.
