GEORGE Two defendants in an illegal cougar hunting case received probation Wednesday. Cimmaron Tyler Cornelkis, 26, Brandon Ray Petty, 33, were sentenced by 5th District Judge James L. Shumate.

The two were involved with Sam Sickels of Colorado. Cornelius and Petty let Sickels guide them on a cougar hunt, but none of them had a valid Utah permit to hunt cougars. Cornelius of Kannaraville pleaded guilty to two counts of aiding and assisting in the wanton destruction of protected wildlife. nelius committed the violations Dec. 29, 1996, and Jan.

10, 1997, when he assisted in taking two cougars. On Jan. 6, 1997, Petty attempted to hunt a cougar. Petty, who makes his living as a guide, wasn't as involved in the offense, said Jerry Jaeger, deputy Washington County attorney. Sickels, 33, was sentenced in 1998.

He is serving two years probation for wanton destruction of protected wildlife, a Class A misdemeanor. In his case, most of the seven cougars were killed in the Hog's Heaven area, near Zion National Park, between December 1997 and January 1998. a class A misdemeanor. He'll serve' two years probation, perform 100 hours of community service and pay a $2,000 fine. Petty, of Cedar City, must serve six months bench probation and pay a $300 fine.

He pleaded no contest to attempted aiding and assisting in the wanton destruction of protected wildlife, a Class misdemeanor. A no contest plea means a person doesn't admit guilt, but also doesn't contest facts surrounding the charge. Attorney James M. Park represented both men. In return for their pleas, all other charges were dismissed.

According to a court file, Cor "We want to have a speedy trial, we look forward to our day in court," Bugden said. "We attempt to defend the charge vigorously, and expect Mr. Hall will be exonerated, because he didn't do anything." Shaum said the incidents occurred over a two-year period in St. George. Attorney Walter E. Cedar City Police Department Robert John Bellach, 18, of Cedar City was arrested Tuesday on an outstanding second-degree felony warrant. David Harvey DeLong, 43, of Salt Lake City was arrested Tuesday on an outstanding third-degree felony warrant for driving under the influence of alcoholdrugs. He is being held in the Iron County-Utah State Correctional Facility without bail. Danny Joseph Olson, 22, of Cedar City was arrested Tuesday and charged with stalking, criminal trespass, intoxication and disorderly conduct.

He was released from the Iron County-Utah State Correctional Facility on $2,730 bail.
