UC201001391 Walter Morrison, 90, father of Frisbee TRIBUNE NEWSPAPERS LOS ANGELES Walter Fredrick Morrison, whose post-World War Il invention of a "flying" plastic disc became an American recreational icon known as the Frisbee, has died. He was 90. Mr. Morrison died Tuesday of age-related causes at his home in Monroe, Utah, said his son, Walt. Wham-0 Inc.

has sold more than 200 million Frisbees since Mr. Morrison sold the company the rights to what he called the "Pluto Platter" in 1957. In 1937, the 17-year-old Mr. Morrison and his girlfriend and future wife, Lucile, began tossing a large popcorn can lid back and forth for fun during a Thanksgiving party. When the lid got banged up, they switched to cake pans, which they discovered flew much better than the lid.

She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church. She was an active member of Lauderdale Isles Yact Club, where she was bestowed a Life Membership after serving as Commodore, Vice Commodore, Board member and volunteer bookkeeper. Dottie was also a member of Fort Lauderdale Country Club; a Life Member of Elks Lodge 1091, Rochester, MN; a member of Elks Lodge 1517, Fort Lauderdale; and a member of American Legion Post 180. She loved to play bridge and cruise.
