Orem-Geneva Times Wednesday, April 23, 1986 Area obituaries 4 ''--4 i ft (I j4 Gertrude H. Monson Gertrude Hunsaker Monson, 82, died Saturday, April 19, 1986 at the home of a daughter in Ogden, Utah. She was born January 30, 1904 in Elwood, Utah, a daughter of Allen D. and Ivy May Green Hunsaker. She married 1 James F.

Monson, April 5, 1922 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died October 30, 1971. She was an active member of the LDS Church, and served in many of the callings in Relief Society, Primary, and MI A. Much of her married life was spent in Salt Lake City, where she was a member of the 30th Ward. She later lived in Sacramento, Porterville, and Stockton.

California. In 1965, she and her husband moved to Orem, Utah, where she has lived until her death. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Elmer H. (Carol) VanderDoes, of Ogden, Utah; three sons, Leon A.

Monson, of Wilmington, Edon E. Monson of St. George, Utah; Ronald L. Monson of Orem. A son Darrell J.

Monson preceded her in death. She is also survived bv 32 grandchildren and 48 greatgrandchildren, one brother: Luther D. Hunsaker of American Fork, Utah. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 23, 1986 at 11 a.m. in the Orem 51st LDS Ward Chapel, 1650 South 200 East, Orem.

Friends may call Wednesday one hour prior to services at the ward chapel. Interment will be in the Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, Ogden, Utah. 1 billion. IS Lola Tomlinson Wilberg Lola Tomlinson Wilberg, 64, of Orem, died Saturday, April 19, 1986 at the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo. She was born October 18, 1921 in Pleasant Grove, a daughter of Reuben Lewis and Erma Barnes Tomlinson. She married Chal B. Wilberg on October 18, 1939 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

She was raised in Pleasant Grove and graduated from Pleasant Grove High School. She moved to Orem after her marriage. She worked for several years at Provo Craft and Novelty. She established the novelty and craft department at Grand Central when the Orem store opened. She also established the lamp and gift department for the ZCMI Orem store and she worked there for many years.

She has also been employed in the Alpine School District lunch program for five years. She was an active member of the LDS Church having served as a Provo Temple ordinance worker and homemak-ing leader in the Relief Society. She also served 14 years in the ward Young Woman's organization as a teacher and in the presidency. Survivors include her husband of Orem; three sons and two daughters, Terry C. Wilberg, West Point, Utah; Myron B.

Wilberg, Orem; Rickey E. Wilberg, Santaquin; Mrs. Roger (Launa) Menlove, Monrovia, CA; Sherell Bascom, Layton, Utah; 17 grandchildren; her mother, Pleasant Grove; two brothers and one sister: Deloy Tomlinson, Pleasant Grove; Don Tomlinson, Lindon; Mrs. Lloyd (Verla) Walker, Pleasant Grove. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 23, 1986 at 1 p.m.

John Lee John Barton Lee, 24, of Orem, died Saturday, April 19, 1986 in Provo. He was born April 16, 1962 in Mon- ticeiio, the son or Samual H.

and April Barton Lee. He married Teresa Healey Sept. 29, 1984 in Lehi. He served an LDS. mission in the California, Oakland area.

He graduated from Orem High School and attended Brigham Young Universi ty. He was a licensed private pilot and was employed by SSI Software of Orem. Survivors include his wife of Orem; one Devon Lane Lee, Orem; his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Longhurst, Pocatello, Idaho; his father, Salt Lake City; one brother, two sisters: Daniel B.

Lee, Anchorage, Alaska; Mrs. Larry (Catherine) Cooper, Orem; Mrs. Brent (Susan) Done, Mesa, two great-grandmothers, Mrs. Seraphine Frost, Mesa, and Mrs. Etta Barton, Hunter.

Services were held Tuesday in Orem. Burial was in East Lawn Cemetery. Phil Payne Phil Calvin Payne, 69, of Orem, died Tuesday, April 15, 1986 at his home. Hp was born Oct. 17, 1916 in Canon City, to Bethune Calvin and Edith Garnier Payne.

He married Dorothy Ella Swain July 21, 1938 in Heber City. The marriage was later soiem- nized in the Salt vJ Lake LDS Temple. He received 1 4, his education in Heber City and graduated from Wasatch High School. He worked with Pony League baseball and served as coach and He has lived in Pocatello, Idaho; Las Vegas, Provo, and Orem. He has operated the service station at the corner of 1230 North 500 West in Provo for 41 years and was still operating the station at the time of his death.

He was a member of the LDS Church, Orem 86th ward. He served as secretary and first counselor and High Priest group leader in the Park Ward and worked for years in the Scouting porgram. He was serving as secretary in the High Priest Group in the Orem 86th Ward at the time of his death. Survivors include his wife of Orem; two sons: Donald Lee Payne, Wasilla, Alaska and Steven Calvin Payne, Orem; six grandchildren; one brother, Athol Payne, Canon City, Colo. He was preceded in death by one grandson.

Interment Provo City Cemetery. Barker Shurtz Barker Wayne Shurtz, 82, of Orem, died Friday, April 18, 1986 at his daughter's home in Sandy. He was born July 16, 1903 in Sandy, a son of Don Carlos and Mary Alice Barker Shurtz. He married Mary Alice Thomas, Sept. 18, 1929 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

She died Aug. 13, 1984. He spent his childhood and early married years in Escalante where he was a sheepherder. He moved to Orem in the early 1940s. He was one of the first person hired by Geneva Steel after it was built.

He retired from there. He was a High Priest in the Orem LDS 16th Ward. He served an LDS Mission to South Carolina. Survivors include three dauthers: Charlotte Austin, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Roger (Carolyn) Wilkes, Sandy; Mrs.

James (Charlene) Wakefield, Orem; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons: William Don and Thomas Dean. Services were Tuesday in Orem. Burial was in the Orem City Cemetery. Connie Cunningham J.

Connie Miller Cunningham, 35, died Sunday, April 13, 1986 in Provo. She was born June 28. 1950 in knswKKswat Los Angeles, the daughter of Charles and Elenor Marsile Miller, She mar ried Howard A. i Cunningham, April 23, 1970 in the Los Angeles Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was an active member of the LDS Church.

She was a registered nurse and had worked for Utah Valley and Primary Children's Hospitals. She was a former credit manager for the European Health Spa and was a foster parent for 13 years. Survivors include her husband, two daughters and two sons: Wendy, Gregory, Brian and Brigette Cunningham, all Orem; her parents, Sun City, one brother, one sister: Gary Wayne Miller, California and' Gayle Stock, Denver, one adopted sister, Lori Fry, Delta. Services were held in the Orem 100th LDS Ward Chapel. Burial was in the American boric City Cemetery.

Bruce DeFriez Bruce Curtis DeFriez, 54, of Orem, died Wednesday, April 16, 1986 in the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. He was born Feb. 9, 1932 in Orangeville to Arthur and Laura Curtis DeFriez. He married na lev HunsaKer teo. zi, ivo) in Provo.

She died June 17, 1983. He was retired from Civil Ser-1 vice at Tooele Ar- my Depot. Survivors in clude two sons: D. Shane DeFriez, Orem, and Greg B. DeFriez, presently serving an LDS Mission in Tennessee; his mother, Mrs.

Laura DeFriez, Provo; four brothers and two sisters: Arthur Bryce DeFriez, Californai; Clyde DeFriez and Dixie Car-dall, "both Orem; Philip DeFriez, Brigham City; Douglas DeFriez, Man-tau, and Shirley D. Christensen, Midvale. Services were held Saturday in Orem. Burial was in the East Lawn Cemetery, Provo. Sophia Stapley Sophia Parker Stapley, 91, died Wednesday, April 16, 1986 at the home of a daughter in Oakland, Calif.

She was a former resident of Provo and Orem. She was born May 12, 1894 in Kanarraville, Iron County, to Charles and Elizabeth Ann Davis Parker Sr. She married William Berry Stapley June 9, 1920 in the St. George LDS Temple. He.

died Oct. 31, 1959. She spend most of her life in Carbon County and the Provo and Orem area. She was a member of the LDS Church and at the time of her death was a temple worker. She spent the last 20 years in Oakland, Calif, with a daughter.

Survivors include two sons and three dauthers: Helen Ross, Oakland, Winifred Butterfield, Riverton; Homer Stapley, Bountiful; Donna Rae Jorgensen, Salem, Hal Stapley, Riverdale; 25 grandchildren; 14 greatgrandchildren; one brother, Ray Keisel Parker. Cedar City. She was preceded in death by a son, Stanley C. Stapley. Services were held in Bountiful.

Burial was in the Orem City Cemetery! David Dickson David Kay Dickson, 41, of Forest Grove, formerly of Orem, died Thursday, April 10, 1986 in Hillsboro, at Tuality Community Hospital of cardiac arrest following a respiratory illness. He was born Aug. 6, 1945 in Brigham City to William and Darlene Dickson. He married Verna Louise Lee Feb. 26, 1977 in Salt Lake Citv.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Je was raised in Orem and graduated from Orem High School in 1963. He attended Brigham Young University. He moved to Richland, in 1977 then to Portland in 1978 and to forest Urove in 1980. While in Forest Grove, he was a customer service manager at Compass Electronics. Survivors include his wife of Forest Grove, one son, two daughters: John Michael Dickson, Colvis, N.

Deborah Louise Dickson and Lalana Correne Dickson, both Forest Grove, his parents, William and Darlene' Dickson, Orem; three sisters: Mary Swanson, Vernal; Nancy Willes, Springville; Janet Beckstrom, West Jordan; one grandmother: Elizabeth Ilause, Orem. Services were held in Hillsboro, Ore. Burial was in Provo City Cemetery. Landowners Notified To Clear Property Department chairpersons at Mountain View High School have named Bruin Teenagers for the third quarter. These students are recognized for their outstanding contribution to the classes they have taken within these departments.

Saturday, April 26, you, your children, employee groups, civic clubs, and service organizations will join approximately 3,500 walkers in Utah County and literally hundreds of thousands nationwide and unite in the fight against birth defects. Locally three Walks have been scheduled. In American Fork they will start at the American Fork Jr.

High School. The Chairman is Cathy Thompson and she can be reached at 768-3536. In Spanish Fork they will start at the Salem Pond. The Chairman is Karen Payne and her number is 798-8520. In Provo-Orem they will meet at the Scera Park and Pavilion.

The Chairmen are Marv Frandsen (377-2102) and Terri Madsen (224-0911). Registration will begin at 8 a.m. then you can begin the challenge of walking the 30 Kilometers (18.5 miles). Lots of FUN, food, and entertainment will make the Walk an exciting one for all who participate. Balloons, live entertainment, and K96 dis jockeys hamming it up are just a few of the special events that have been organized.

Each Walker will have his friends, neighbors and relative spon-sore himher for each kilometer completed. The money raised will go towards the March of Dimes' fight against birth defects. Sponsor sheets are available at the local schools, 7-11 stores, and the March of Dimes office. Many prizes are available for certain amounts raised individually. The Grand Prize is a trip for two to San Diego for 2 nights.

In addition to individual walkers, many business organizations are participating in TeamWalk. "Not ony is TeamWalk FUN, but it brings the Lions Directors Speak At Zone Meeting Local Lions Club members held a successful zone meeting with about 115 members present in the multipurpose room at Orem City Library. Members from American Fork, Lindon, Pleasant Grove and Orem met with Lady Lions and Lioness Clubs for the special event. Special guest speakers included three Lion District Governors: Ned Duel of Payson, newly elected to the post; Jess Whiting, past District Governor, and Blake Evans, current District Governor. Prizes were awarded to lucky Lions.

The program was furnished by a group of 13 singers from Utah Valley. Thousand Melvin James Locke Melvin James Locke, 58, of O-em, died April 21, 1986 at his home in Orem. He was born December 23, 1927, a son of Joseph and Hilda Otterstrom Locke in Sunnyside, Utah. He married Dorothy Larill Warr on August 10, 1959 in Wyoming. He attended schools in Sunnyside.

He moved to Provo and lived there for; ten years before moving to Orem 25 years ago. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. f. Survivors include one stepson and, two stepdaughters, Hal Halliday of Provo, Elaine Campbell of Provo, Mrs.

Oliver (Shirley) Martin of Battlemoun-tain, Nevada. He is also survived by one brother and two sisters: Wendell J. Locke of Orem, Mrs. Hugh (Thora) Dia- mond of Spring, Texas, and Barbara Gimbel of Tooele, Utah. Services will be held Thursday, April 24, 1986 at 11 a.m.

in the', Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State, Orem. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the mortuary. Interment will be at Timpanogos Memorial Gardens. Military rites will be performed I- District o. 4.

1 Venetta Adams Venetta Boulter Adams, 90, of Lehi, died Monday, April 14, 1986 at her home in Lehi. he was born Jan. 8, 1 896 in Draper, a daughter of John Amber and martha Jane Mann Boulter. She married Silas' E. Adams Oct.

8, 1917 in Pleasant Grove. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died Aug. 28, 1956. She received her education in Orem schools.

She was employed by Startup's Candy Co. in Provo. She was also a news correspondent for The Daily Herald, the Deseret News and the Salt Lake Tribune. She was a life long resident of Utah County. She was an active member of the LDS Church.

She is survived by three sons and two daughters: Bryce L. Adams and Elvin L. Adams, both Orem; J. Dean Adams, Lindon; Arvene Olsen, Sandy; Mrs. Burton (VaNetta) Brooks, Fork; 34 grandchildren; 78 great-grandchildren; one brother and four sisters: Don W.

Boulter, Alpine; Mrs. Reed (Lucinda) Barrett, American Fork; Mille Newbold, West Jordan; Jane Dunn, California, and Winnie Reid, American Fork. She was preceded in death by two sons and one daughter: Don, Glade and LaRetta. Services were held last Wednesday at Pleasant Grove. Burial was in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery.

Patrick Quist Patrick J. Quist, 19, of Huntington Beach, died Saturday, April 19, 1986 in Huntington Beach of injuries received in an automobile accident. He was born Dec. 17, 1966 in Provo to John L. and Suzanne C.

Quist. He was a student at Wintersberg High School in Huntington Beach. He was a former resident of Orem. Survivors include his father of Huntington Beach; his mother, of Orem; two brothers and one sister: James M. Quist, Huntington Beach; Channing R.

Quist and Kerrie Bee, both Orem; grandparents Mr. and Mrs. G. Mack Christiansen, Orem. Services were held Monday in Huntington Beach with burial in the Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, Calif.

Marisa Memmott arisa Memmott, infant daughter of Michael and Sheila Madsen Memmott, died Thursday, April 17, 1986 at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo. She was bom April 17, 1986. Her parents are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Both parents are. employed by ountainHell.

She is survived by her parents of Orem and one sister, Anna; grandparents: Mr. and Mrs. Gene L. Madsen and Delsa Memmott, all of Orem; great-grandparents: Mr. and Mrs.

R. Clyde Memmott of Orem. Graveside services were held Monday in the Orem City Cemetery.
