August Arrowhead Triangle to open as park By ANGIE PARKINSON angiepthespectrumcom SANTA CLARA Citizens of Santa Clara will meet Monday April 2 at 5 pm for the unveiling and dedication of their new park It will be called Arrowhead Park and serve as an entry to the histor ical district according to chair woman of the Heritage and Parks Commission Kathleen Nielson The name is a familiar one said Nielson The triangle of land originally formed by farm ers on their way to the fields is located (at the intersection of Arrowhead Trail and Santa Clara Drive Nielson said the land has been known as for some time The new park is not designed for a play area said Nielson It is more of a beautification project than a recreation project City staff is submitting a grant application for developing the downtown area The grant money comes through federal monies set aside specifically for beautification of roadways in the Intermodal Surface Efficiency Act of 1991 If Santa Clara gets the grant Santa Clara Drive will be convert ed into a walking area complete with greenery kiosks benches and trails Trails will link historical sites and shops downtown Nielson said Arrowhead would serve as an introductory point for the walkinghistorical district Community members donated time and money to help complete Arrowhead Several Eagle Scout hopefuls created projects based on clearing the park and planting greenery And one citizen donated money for an elaborate sign The sign is wooden with two sandstone pillars on either side' The sign will welcome visitors to the historical district hoping this sign will get everyone exited about the streetscape project and expanding that same flavor throughout the said Nielson The complete park is the culmi nation of about six months of work said Nielson Mayor red Rowley and city council members will preside at the unveilingdedication on Monday Santa Clara votes to lease second generator BY ANGIE PARKINSON angiepthespectrum com SANTA CLARA The Santa Clara City Council con tinues its quest for energy sup ply security At their Wednesday night meeting the council voted to lease a second portable generator They voted to lease the first portable gen erator in their March 5 meet ing The Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems (UAMPS) offered to pay the city a set rate for power gener ated by the second portable Staff members calculated power sales from a second gen erator would offset the cost of power for the city Even with the cost of the lease payments fuel and main tenance the city will still be I able to turn a profit with the second generator according to City Manager Matthew Brower Under the agreement if the city runs the generator for the months of June July August September and October and sells exclusively to UAMPS it will make a sig nificant profit Running the generator 8 hours each day the power sales will provide an extra 5500000 in revenue said Brower The first generator will be used primarily for energy needs within the city said Brower Power from the sec ond generator will be sold to make a profit The Council also voted to approve a new master roads map Council members would have adopted the entire general plan but it is not ready They approved the map separately so they could also remove the building moratorium on the sections of land under consid eration for possible river cross ings The moratorium has been in place since a November meeting The master road map the Council approved designates a parcel of land where a future crossing of the Santa Clara River will be constructed Council members agreed with the Planning and Zoning Commission's suggestion of the site known as three" The crossing will be located at Chapel Lane The master roads map is not meant to des ignate exactly where the future road will go said City Engineer Todd Edwards The plan is meant to give a fair warning to builders about the planned river crossing before they start to build Death Notice St George
