Long before the Mormons settled in Utah, the Lamanites bathed in the hot spring pools at the north end of Utah Lake. The pioneers were not long in discovering the seven geothermals and they soon became a popular picnic spot. Brigham Young used to come down from Salt Lake City to relax. In the mid-1800's the Austin family bought the area and built a commercial resort, also farming the surrounding land.

Saratoga has been popular ever since. LjfM-r Tony Grove Lake Among the many improvements made this year at Mick Eastmond's Saratoga Resort on Utah Lake southwest of Lehi is an exciting open air waterslide. This cascade of 2,000 gallons of water winds in a smooth plastic chute through a grove of trees to dump swimmers into a large pool. Other attractions are a marina for boaters, dining terrace, games arcade, miniature golf, swimming pools and kiddie rides. There are large, shady lawns with views of the lake and mountains for picnics and lolling.

Saratoga has long been known for its campground, consisting of 36 areas with electric hookups, toilets and showers. Saratoga's Merry-Go-Ro-und is the oldest in the state and still in excellent condition. The other rides are little dipper roller coaster, tubs of fun, helicopter, caterpillar, boats and motorcycles. The resort is locale for many group activities such as family reunions, musical concerts and business says publicity director Earl Thompson. "Therefore those who want to be assured of a seal should reserve now." (See ad elsewhere in this issue).

Parades will enliven each afternoon of the three-day wing-ding. There will be one for children on Thursday, a beauty procession Friday and a general turnout through town on Saturday. All begin at 3 p.m. Grand entry at the arena will be at 8 p.m. sharp.

The opener of each session will be a rambunctious wild horse scramble that sets the tune of this wild and wooly display of cowboy talent. Clowns John Tatum and Gary Parli will divert the bulls from fallen riders and entertain the crowd with zany antics. The Roundup will host the High School regional finals. Finalists from Nevada, Utah. New Mexico and Arizona will compete each evening.

The winners will go to the PRCA National Championshp Rodeo in December at Oklahoma City. FISHING SEASON OPENS 31 MAY NOTE NEW RULES Star Palace Versatile Entertainment Center One of the biggest and oldest western shows in the state is the St. George Lions Club Dixie Roundup. Its 4(th annual hoorah will raise the dust in Dixie Sunhowl September 11-13. The Bowl, in downtown St.

George, will hold 8.000 fans and is always full Saturday night. This year several hundred more seats will be added. "We expect a larger turnout than'ever this vear," regulations, limit regulations and a variety of other special information which can help you plan a fishing trip. Adult resident fishing license fees will be: Ages 16-64, 65 and older, 12-15, $3.50. Al's Security Service Sherwood Hills FISHING is great on building at 5th North and 9th East, offers the public far more than disco.

Besides that style, which is less popular than previously, the Palace features country western, big band and rock and roll. Should another type come along, that will be included, too. The idea, says Murdock, is to broaden the Star Palace availability to the public by offering a wide range of entertainment and recreation. For example, inasmuch as the building is not used for dancing days and two nights of the week, it will be rented for a variety of purposes, such as meetings, conventions, balls, fairs, benefits and the like. Management is prepared to handle all arrangements including food, music, entertainment, photography and other details.

Musical concerts by leading recording artists will be booked on a year around basis. Inasmuch as the building will hold up to 1,500 people seated and more than 2,000 dancing, more than one group function at a time can be handled or the entire facility may be booked. Billed as the biggest disco with the most extensive sound system in the world, Star Palace is unique of decor and layout inside. It glitters with mirrors and crystal chandeliers. The foyer is carpeted and furnished with upholstered chairs and couches.

Manager Murdock is assisted by a staff of 15. House rules prohibit admission of anyone wearing faded jeans, t-shirts, athletic shoes, thongs or immodest dress of any kind. Liquor and tobacco are also taboo. v. Opened as strictly a discoteque two years ago, the Star Palace in Provo has evolved into Utah county's largest and most versatile entertainment center.

According to Bryan Murdock, manager the huge Racquet Club Total Club 3 Pools Whirlpools Physical Fitness Steam Room Racquetball Tennis Saunas Fishing season opens Saturday, May 31, and closes November 30 this year. The state's most popular and regularly taken game fish is the rainbow trout, though frequently taken from many waters are brook, native cutthroat, brown, Kokanee salmon, Mackinaw or lake trout, grayling, largemouth and white bass, channel cats and walleye pike. Two great man-made lakes furnish spectacular fishing they are Flaming Gorge in northeastern Utah and Lake Powell in south-central Utah. The state has an abundance of streams and still waters ranging from low valley lakes to those in high mountain country.

Much of the best fishing in the state is accessible by oiled road, though back country mountain areas offer pack trips both on horseback and on foot, for those who desire them.
