Their fingernails continue to grow, however, trapping those who boat on the lake's surface. And of course scout lore includes lake monsters. Lumpus insists he wants no help and that the boys are to leave him alone. As a lake monster looms behind Lumpus, the boys debate if the scoutmaster means no help ever. They end up agreeing with Lazlo that it's no help, not ever, and the scoutmaster ends up in the monster's mouth.

And when Squirrel Scouts suggest a pine-cone sitting contest to determine who controls the best mud puddles, Bean Scouts agree, although they aren't eager to take part in the challenge. This underscores the charm in Camp Lazlo the star campers' naive desire to help out, follow directions and generally be good kids while having fun at the lake with their pals. By Jeanne Spreier THE DALLAS MORNING NEWS Don't ever underestimate the value of total goofiness when rating a cartoon. Camp Lazlo embraces goofy in a big way, making this a good half-hour of entertainment for kids who are old enough to appreciate the nuttiness in the lives of these Bean Scouts. The scouts attend Camp Kidney, located across Leakey Lake from the girls' Squirrel Scout camp at Acorn Flat s.

All this outdoor fun takes place in the Pim-pleback Mountains, where the fish don't bite, it rains and scoutmaster Lumpus is alternately too controlling or couldn't care less. Lazlo, a Brazilian spider monkey, lives with his buddies Raj, an Indian elephant, and Clam, an albino pygmy rhino, in the Jelly Bean cabin, suitably decrepit for summer scouts. Lazlo and his buddies stumble across predictable camp quandaries. A leech attaches itself to La- Program: Camp Lazlo Airs: 8 p.m. Fridays on Cartoon Network zlo's head.

He goes to the nurse's hut, who scoots around on a little medical stool, being annoying in that passive-aggressive nurse way that would be recognized by anyone who's been to a clinic. The nurse takes an X-ray, looks at the leech and declares there's really no problem. Lazlo names the leech Lamar and grows fond of the parasite. It isn't until Raj notices the leech is growing and Lazlo's getting pale that the campers decide to do something about it. In another episode, the campers decide to "help" Lumpus catch fish by taking out his high-powered, super-slick ski boat, forcing the scoutmaster to chase down these wayward scouts in a canoe.
