"The reason we acted on it and put the station up is that we run the risk of losing Southern Utah to an out-of-state market" Pulley said. "We felt that would be devastating to the state. Eventually everything could have been oriented from Las Vegas, and we felt that would be real big disservice to the crmtViprn mil nf tVt ctatp" ST.

Subscribers of Falcon Cable may have noticed that they are now receiving three Fox network channels one from Salt Lake City, one from Las Vegas, and one from St George? Through an arrangement with Salt Lake City's KSTU Fox 13. KDL Channel 55 has become the first network affiliate with local studios in St George. "We're carrying the same programming as the Salt Lake Fox station which makes us a satellite affiliate," Miner said.

For area residents who do not subscribe to cable television, the Fox Television Network is now available on Channel 13. "We're promoting ourselves as Fox "13 St George, and the station is also carried on local cable systems Sky-Vision, Falcon Cable and Clear Vision," Miner said. 1 The Joint arrangement not only provides residents with the popular Fox network lineup including "Star Trek The Next Generatioa" "Beverly Hills 90210," "Cops" and "The Simpsons," but also local programing such as "Good Morning Dixie" with Diane Sheets and "Dixie Commentary" with June Pace and Wallace Brazzeall. "Our local programming on Sunday major improvement for us," he said. Because of an agreement with Fox, Miner said they do not have future plans to produce a local newscast however they do plan on doing local news updates.

KDL signed on the air in 1982 under the co-ownership of KDXUKZEZ. "It operated successfully for about five or six years and was then sold to a Salt Lake City company," Miner said. Our station will also be carried on the Enterprise cable TV system." Miner said there are also plans to add the Pine Valley and Central areas as well There had been a lot of interest from other network but we felt we would be stronger with Fox," he said. "It's a morning provides a local forum, Miner said. "Good Morning Dixie is a one-hour show that focuses on what to do in the area and on local people, while Dixie Commentary looks more at politics and hard news." It also provides KDL with access to Fox programming, including the addition of the Fox Kids Club which will give special recognition to local youth including prizes and birthday announcements.

Daily Spectrum Correspondent CEDAR CnY Harley Venton says that if he were to erect -a billboard to the world that explained who he was and how he felt it would be an image of him as Tony Cavendish in The Royal Family" sword in hand, billowy clothes blowing out behind him, exuding confidence. But the audience could also just make out that his fingers were crossed behind his back in hopes that it would all work out Venton has replaced Patrick Page as the Utah Shakespearean Festival's leading man this season. Venton said he was contacted by USF representatives about three weeks ago asking if he would be interested in playing Bollingbrooke in "King Richard IT and Tony Cavendish in The Royal Family" for this season's festival. A few days later he was interviewed by a festival representative in the Los Angeles International Airport Venton said "yes," and moved to Cedar City June 8.

"It's been a whirlwind, but it's been good," Venton said about getting used to his new surroundings and schedule. His interest in theatre began when' he was in the eighth grade. Venton, who has gone on to star in movies and television, recalls sitting in his homeroom class when the principal announced that students could pay 20 cents to see a play that afternoon and skip two class periods. 1 didn't have any idea what a play was about but I did know that 20 cents was a good deal for being able to miss two classes," Venton said. He went to the play.

"When the lights came up, the curtain pulled back and the actors came on stage, I felt at home. I thought This is for me. The only acting I'd ever realty seen was watching the Carol Bumette Show Venton said "I tried out and got the lead by acting like Tim Conway." From then on, Venton set his sights on acting. Venton said he also got a lot of inspiration from his mother, a Pentecostal minister. The theatricality of that religion appealed to me." Venton said "We also moved around a lot so I never quite fit )n Shakespearean festivals are nothing new to Venton.

He's acted out the Bard's works in the New Jersey, California and Oregon festivals as well as on stage for the Guthrie Theatre and the Hartford Stage Company. His commercial acting credits are also numerous.
