Page D2 The Spectrum Money Sunday, March 23, 1997 Local real estate office hits No. 1 international spot Novell, Netscape plan Internet software venture based in Utah For The Spectrum Local real estate broker Steven Bradbury garnered international honors last month in Nashville, when the No. One Low- Density Office in the World was awarded to the St. George office. The statistics of this relatively small Dixie office astonished we've been open just five years." Bradbury said.

"They were even more surprised to discover that it took only 17 agents." ReMax" generated 1.020 transactions topping 893 million in annual sales. When asked the keys to his success. Bradbury gave the credit to his agents, staff and support from affiliate companies. The people who work for Bradbury say it's his fences-down personality as a broker rather than a goals-and-numbers approach that keeps them loyal. "He cares about my production, but he cares more about me on a personal level and whether or not I'm having fun along the way," agent Kevin Keezos said.

"He even showed up at the hospital when we had a new baby." While ReMax employees here are pleased with their accomplishments, they are excited by the impact they had in bringing almost $100 million dollars into the local economy. 360 North Bradbury since Novell and Netscape are direct competitors. The companies said they will await government review before forming Novonyx. Novell on Tuesday named Eric Schmidt, the longtime chief technology officer of Sun Microsystems to be chairman and chief executive. The company has been aggressively setting up alliances to shore up. its defenses against Microsoft, and is expected to announce another partnership Monday with Oracle a database software company, the Wall Street Journal reported today.

Netscape benefits from the alliance because it gains access to Novell's sales force and to the 60 million computer users connected to Novell operating systems, said John Paul, Netscape's vice president of strategic programs. Novell gains because partnering with a company recognized as an Internet technology leader builds credibility for IntranetWare as a valuable InternetIntranet tool, Langford said. large base of software developers," Langford said. "We hope employees join us from many companies, not just Novell." Web servers are used by publishers to set up and manage Web sites, and by companies to set up internal information systems called intranets. Novonyx is expected to rely heavily on Novell's technical expertise and independent dealers to sell the Web software.

Microsoft's Windows NT operating system is a major threat to Novell's NetWare operating system, and the software giant is posing stiff competition for Mountain View, Calif. -based Netscape by giving away Web server software as well as programs for browsing the Web, Netscape's biggest business. NetWare is mainly used by groups of personal-computer users to manage basic networking tasks such as sharing printers and file storage. But it is also used by some companies to run databases and other application programs. The joint venture could raise federal antitrust concerns.

By The Associated Press OREM Novell Inc. and Netscape Communications Corp. announced Friday they will form an Internet software company aimed at making corporate computing easier and more productive. The jointly owned company, to be called Novonyx. will adapt Netscape's software for World Wide Web servers to run on Novell's operating system for managing computer networks.

Novell and Netscape wouldn't say how much they are investing in the venture, but made clear the cooperation could be an important weapon in their battles against Microsoft Corp. The new company, to be called Novonyx will be located near Novell in Utah, said Vic Langford, senior vice president and general manager of Novell's InternetIntranet Services Business Unit Novonyx initially will employ 50 to 100 people. "We made a conscious decision to place it in the state to take advantage of the state's international brokers. "The significance of the award won by ReMax First Realty becomes clear when you consider that there are more than 2.800 ReMax offices in 21 countries." said Jack Kreider, vice president and regional director of ReMax Western Mountain States.
