GEORGE Remembered by their daughter as hard working individuals who worked to give the best life possible to their children, Leo and Dena Lauren, 54 and 47, St. George, died Sunday night in a head-on collision with a vehicle driven by Kristen Dodson, 22, who also died on impact "They'll be greatly missed and we'll always love them," said Louise Lauren, 13, the couple's oldest daughter. The collision closed down the northbound lanes of Interstate 15 between exit 6 and exit 8 for nearly two hours Sunday night when traffic was taken through Si George.

The red Nissan Altima, driven by Dodson of Page, ran head-on into the Laurens' white van as she drove southbound in the northbound lanes of the interstate, according to a news release from the Utah Highway Patrol. Dodson entered the freeway on the northbound exit 8 off-ramp and only drove about half a mile before colliding with the Laurens, said UHP Sgt. Jim Lloyd. Dodson was driving approximately 80 miles per hour and the Laurens' vehicle was going about 65 miles per hour, according to witnesses' said UHPLLLeePyper. "That was basically an explosion when you hit at those speeds," Pyper said.

"You're talking about 140- to 150-mph collision." None of the three individuals wore a seat belt, according to the news release, and the vehicles were crushed at least as far back as the passenger compartment, Lloyd said. Lloyd said drivers should move to the right to help in avoiding vehicles traveling in the wrong direction. St. George Police Department Spokesman Craig Harding agreed, saying vehicles should only be in the left lane to pass. There are probably one to two reports a month of a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction, Harding said.

Drivers should be particularly careful when driving in left lanes around left curves in the Virgin River Gorge, Harding said. The reason Dodson drove southbound in northbound lanes is unknown and it will be another two or three weeks before blood tests reveal whether Dodson was under the influence of drugs or as governor Douglas C. Dignitaries that did attend included Lan Ligun, minister from the Chinese embassy in Washington and members of Taiwan's economic and cultural office in San Francisco. Others included former Gov. "This will be my single-minded resolve because so much educating our children, providing health care for all Utahns, and paying for badly needed improvements to our infrastructure depends on a viable economic base." Huntsman also reached out to the opposition in heavily Republican Utah, and paid recognition to his Democratic opponent "my friend Scott Matheson Jr." at the start of his speech. "It must be clear that although our defining roots may be different, they need not divide us," he said.

"A fundamental aspect of my administration will be to eliminate divisions by creating a common destiny. The best way to bring people together is by developing ways to work together and by doing so we learn that our differences are not always as great as we might imagine." He also pledged to give singular focus to expanding and diversifying Utah's economy.

The 44-year-old Republican said he'll charge into office to accomplish his goals regardless of the political fallout or his chances at re-election in four years. Huntsman took an oath administered by Utah Chief Justice Christine M.
