Other NEW YORK (UPI) Ethics, al legedly a somewhat novel topic for college business courses, will be blended into existing curriculums, if Arthur Andersen the nation's largest accounting and consulting organization, has its way. The company revealed Thursday that it's plunking down $5 million to nuture business ethics instruction in colleges and in company management training across the nation. Business ethics has to do with old-time questions such as is it OK to rob Peter to pay Paul, a modus operandi RobinTHood followed. And it has to do with greedy strategies for getting ahead paving the fast track with banana peels so competitors fall.

Business ethics also deals with cor in the rapidly changing world of business. "Often ethical decisions are not as black and white as they once were. In an effort to provide business graduates with the necessary tools to make decisions in the 'gray' area, PACE is aimed at helping students develop their reasoning skills to keep abreast in an ever changing business environment. "We've made a major commitment to help ensure that the teaching of business ethics is incorporated into the core of business programs so that it becomes an integral part of business education." The $5 million will fund the multi-phased program for five years. Kullberg said a significant amount will fund twice-yearly seminars for business school professors.

The seminars, featuring the case histories in ethical problems, will take place at the firm's Center for Professional Education in St. Charles, 111. Tebbs LUMBAR INSTABILITY Unofficial world's biggest snowman MILWAUKEE Members of Marquette University's College of Engineering snowman building crew raise their arms in jubilation after topping off "Miller" the snowman at 52.9 feet, unofficially breaking the world record of 5 1 feet, 7 inches. The two-week project, sponsored by Miller Brewing Company, required 1 .4 million pounds of snow and 367,000, gallons of water to complete "Miller." (UPI) The gradual wearing away of a vertebral disc or discs may lead to segmental instability of the lower back. A person with instability in one or more portions of the lumbar spine is aware of an off-and-on backache that worsens with activity and is improved by rest. The deep ache may be felt right over the unstable segment of the spine, or may be referred to the buttocks. There may be muscle spasm, which is a protective reflex.

Degeneration of the intervertebral discs interferes with the normally smooth motion of the spine, replacing it with excessive motion. It also interferes with the normal transmission of nerve energy. X-rays may show bony outcroppings, "traction spurs," on the spine. Grand Opening The Douglas dynasty: APPLEGATE CHIROPRACTIC CLINIC Dr. Kirk Applegate HOLLYWOOD (UPI) Kirk Douglas was grinning when he said, "I'm going to be nice to my sons because they keep the old man working." Producer-son Peter Douglas hired his dad for his production of "Inherit the Wind," a two-hour NBC-TV movie scheduled for March 20.

Peter also called on his father to star in the highly acclaimed TV movie "Amos" two years ago, earning Pop an Emmy nomination for his work. Actor-producer-son Michael was nominated for an Oscar this year for his performance in "Wall Street." "I'm truly blessed," said Douglas, over lunch at his Bryna Productions MASTIC BEACH, N.Y. (UPI) A woman gave birth to a healthy girl early Friday only four hours after she was discharged from a hospital with a diagnosis of having a stomach virus. Caren Edwards, 21, went to Brook-haven Memorial Hospital in Patch-ogue late Thursday complaining of stomach pains, but was discharged at 1:40 a.m., Suffolk County police said. "I got the call about 6 o'clock this morning and I was very close," said Officer Edward Troyano, 25, who was cruising in a radio car.

"The family was out on the lawn saying the baby was coming. "Sure enough, I went inside and the head was just crowning. The first thing I said was get some clean sheets, but I wasn't really sure what I was doing. I just laid her down on the floor and it just sort of did it by itself," he said. Kirk, Mike Douglas pounded his fist into his hand a couple of times as he talked about finally playing Bryan in the new TV version.

"The story is more meaningful today than when it happened in 1925 or when the picture came out more than 25 years ago," he said. "The TV evangelists and fundamentalist movement has never been stronger in this country. "The issues involved are pertinent in these times because of men like Jimmy Bakker, James Swaggart and Pat Robertson. Those are the men on which I based my performance as Bryan. visory Council on Ethics.

The Arthur Andersen program, dubbed PACE, is based on practical case studies developed for easy incorporation into existing curriculums in five areas: finance, marketing, economics, management and accounting, according to Duane R. Kullberg, the firm's managing partner and chief executive officer. "Ethical behavior is fundamental to the successful operation of private enterprise," he explained.

She was so happy. This has to be the highlight of my career so far," the three-year veteran said. Troyano and Officer Rory Forres-tal called an ambulance and mother and daughter were returned to the hospital where she had been discharged. "She and the baby are in satisfactory condition," a Brookhaven Memorial spokeswoman said.

But she declined comment on the earlier stomach virus diagnosis and discharge. Troyano said he and Forrestal were classmates three years ago at the police academy, where one of the compulsory topics is emergency maternity care. "We watched a film together at the academy, but the real thing is a lot different from watching a film," said Troyano, who though married has no children of his own. and Peter "I remember the picture and the play very well. It wasn't necessary for me to see the original film again.

"Our version is altogether different. The producers of the play always maintained it was not a historical account of the Scopes trial, and it isn't. I read the transcript of the trial and we used many things that are not in the play or the movie. "It was more a battle of the giants representing two opposing points of view on a vital issue of the times. It is still vital." Douglas praised the work of Jason Robards who plays Henry Drum-mond, the role Tracy played in the film.

At the time, he wasn't able. But he never forgot the courtroom drama and the role that eluded him. He wanted to play special prosecutor Matthew Harrison Brady, a character based William Jennings Bryan, in the fictionalized story of the landmark 1925 Scopes "Monkey Trial."
