Breeders See Herds From Other Farms About 45 Fond du Lac County Holstein breeders saw four Holstein herds in Outagamie County Thursday.

The group visited the Voight Brothers farm, Shiocton, where about 60 cows have a herd average of 596 pounds of butterfat. They have 10 cows in the herd with over 100,000 pounds of milk per cow. On the Clifford Conrad farm, Shiocton, R. 2, the tour saw a purebred herd of 55 milking Hol-1 steins and 150 head of dairy, steers. At the Marvin Krahn farm, Seymour, they are milking 45 head of dairy cattle.

The group also saw Rex Triune Comlet, the herd sire which was purchased several years ago from Sam Stanchfield, Route 3. On the Mossholder Brothers' farms, Appleton, tourists not only saw the 100-head milking but also a home cheese factory. The Mossholder Brothers make brick cheese from all of the milk produced on the farm. They have been raising purebreds since 1917. The cheese is sold directly from the farm and to various retail outlets.

On each of the farms the breeders had a chance to learn the breeding programs carried on over the years and see the feeding and management practices being carried out. Heading up the tour from Fond du Lac County were Donald Gillet, Rosendale, County Holstein Association president, and Harold Reinlecke, county agent. This is the fourth year that the group has toured herds in neighboring counties.
