James Humphreys, attendant at the Tommy Oil station at 2089 Hollywood was robbed of about S90 about 8:30 a.m. today, Jackson police said. Humphreys told police he put some gas into the tank of a motorcycle and when he attempted to collect for the gas, the lone man rider pulled a small pistol and robbed him. The cyclist then sped away on Hollywood Drive toward Old Hickory Boulevard, the victim told police. The robber wore blue jeans and a tight-fitting jean jacket, had long hair hanging out of his red motorcycle helmet and had a heavy beard, the station attendant told police.

The motorcycle had no tag, police were told. Area officers, meanwhile, were looking for a Benton County man who escaped early this morning from the state correctional institution in Memphis. He was identified as Larry Curtis Chamberlain, 21. who was serving sentences for burglary, motorcycle and car theft. Chamberlain was described as a white man, 6-feet tall.

147 pounds, brown hair and eyes, clean shaven with a ruddy complexion. Chamberlain escaped through an air conditioning vent in a holding cell where he and another inmate were being housed, a spokesman at the institute said. Today was the second time Chamberlain has escaped from the institution in the last several months, the spokesman added. The Benton County resident also escaped from the Weakley County Jail in November 1975 while serving a burglary sentence. He escaped from the Benton County Jail in 1977 and was captured when he was shot by officers following a burglary near Paris and a chase of about 10 miles through wooded areas near the Tennessee-Kentucky line, officials said.

Prison authorities said Chamberlain's record shows he has been involved in several thefts of motorcycles and automobiles. KM Hospital, emergency. Today 2:40 a.m. 202 Webster St. to General Hospital, emergency.
