According to the news release from the Simpson County Development Foundation, the improvements to be made will include removal of the existing deteriorating roof and installa MagneTek building on U.S. Highway 49 between Mendenhall and Magee. The grant was necessary for Howard Industries to occupy the plant and begin local operations.

Ellisville as the number one seed. The Tigers, under Head Coach James Crain, have now recorded 20 wins or more for 18 consecutive seasons.

Their current record stands at 23-7 at press time. They played Northwest Rankin Tuesday night and end the regular season with Bay Springs at Tiger Gym Friday night. During the past week Mendenhall recorded three wins over South Jones 105-51, Laurel 92-56 and Mt. Olive 72-57. They will face the winner of Wednesday's Quitman-South Jones game. A win in that game will put the Tigers in the South State basketball tournament. According to the Simpson County Sheriff's Department, the truck attempted to cross the bridge from the Simpson County side and the GROUNDHOG SHADOW DAY Students from Mendenhall High School and Magee High School participated for the first time in National Groundhog Shadow Day last week. Students tagged, with workers observing and learning, what skills are required to do certain jobs. The goal of the event is to encourage volunteers mentors to allow young people to come to work to show them what a job is like and how skills learned in school can be put into action. Patricia Holloway, Mendenhall High teacher, said, "The students returned to school really excited and enthusiastic about seeing different jobs and how they are performed." The student assigned to the Mendenhall City Library said, "They want me to come back!" The librarian said that the student performed many different tasks such as checking out books and other neces sary duties performed in the library. The school district thanked the many mentors in the area who volunteered.

GUARD BLOOD DRIVE The National Guard Armory in Magee will host a special blood drive on Sunday, February 8 a.m. to noon. Those who wish to donate should be healthy, at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. For more information, call Ann Parker at Mississippi Blood Services at 1-800-817-7449. 20 The GED will be given February 20, at 7:30 a.m. in the multi-purpose building across from the courthouse in Mendenhall. The test is $30 for the full test or $6 for each part. MSU COOKBOOK DUE "A Taste of Class," a 175-page cookbook, produced by the agricultural research arm of Mississippi State University, is due to be released February 14.

Many of the recipes have been served to university guests over the years and feature MSU food products, such as cheese. M'hall fireman seeking donations Members of the Mendenhall Volunteer Fire Department arc seeking donations to erect a memorial at the Fire Station to honor those fireman that have died. Fireman Price Wallace in spearheading the drive said, "We arc seeking donations from the public to help finance the memorial. We have 25 cx-Mcndcnhall Firemen that have passed on and wc want to honor them with a monument in front of the Fire Department." Mcndenhall's Fire Department presently has 35 active members living in the Mendenhall and D'Lo area. "Wc have already started the drive and any donation will be greatly appreciated," added Wallace.
