V- Off- Mm- From page 2B. behind senior Wayne Radford, who scored 13 of his 16 points after the break North Carolina Stale 74, Duke 50: Glenn Sudhop scored 15 points and Charles "Hawkeye" Whitney added 14 to lead North Carolina State to a 74-50 thrashing of Duke in an Atlantic Coast Conference game in Raleigh. The Wolf pack, now 10-1 and 1-0 in the ACC, took the lead midway through the first half and led by five at halftime. Sudhop, a 7-2 junior, led the N.C. State explosion in the second half as the Wolf pack led by as many as 28 points hear the end of the game. N.C. Spanarkel, Duke's leading scorer for the season, did not score in the seond half and Gminiski scored just two in the final period. Indiana St. 79, W. Texas St. 63: Indiana State's Larry Bird scored 30 points as the unbeaten, sixth-ranked Sycamores outmuscled West Texas State 79-63 in a Missouri Valley Conference basketball game in Terre Haute, Ind. Indiana State, 2-0 in the conference and 10-0 overall, took the lead for good on two free throws by the 6-foot-9 Bird two minutes into the game.

Bird got 14 of his 30 points in the second half. West Texas State, 0-2 in the conference and 3-8, was led by Maurice Cheeks with 19 points.

Carl Johnson and Tony Ellis added 12 points each for the Buffaloes. balanced. Kindal Pinder had 10 points. Clyde Austin had nine and Tony Warren and Kenny Matthews had eight each. North Carolina 76, Virginia 61: Phil Ford hit five straight field goals over a 4'2-minute stretch in the second half to help power North Carolina's second-ranked Tar Heels past Virginia's 13th-ranked Cavaliers 76-61 in Atlantic Coast Conference basketball at Charlottesville.

The Tar Heels, running their record to 12-1 and 2-0 in the ACC, hit 16 of 17 floor shots in the second half and 33 of 43 for the game, a 77 percent accuracy mark. Ford finished with 25 points and Mike OKoren with 18 for the. Tar Heels, who also suffered 15 turnovers after intermission that made little difference in the final outcome. Jeff Lamp had 16 points and Marc Iavaroni and Lee Raker 12 each for the Cavaliers, suffered their first defeat in nine starts and fell to 1-1 in the ACC. The last time Virginia was in the game was at 29-29 with 4:39 left in the first half.

But the Tar Heels ran off the last 10 points of the first half for a 39-29 lead and scored the first two baskets after intermission. Drew, who had 11 points in the opening quarter spurt that put the Hawks in control, finished with 25 points and Rollins added 21, his career high. By The Associated Press BUFFALO Don Buse scored 11 points in a third-quarter surge and Waller Davis scored 13 of his 26 points in the final quarter to lead the Phoenix Suns to a 107-97 victory over the Buffalo Braves Saturday night. Gervin, who scored 24 points in the game including four in overtime was fouled while attempting a 25-foot jumper with four seconds left.
