M. For the clearest reason why President Franklin D. RoosevcH. should be re-elected head of the ship of state, one should rftad Fannie Hurst in the Liberty Magazine this week. Miss Hurst, who Is a clear thinker, a famous writer, and more than that, person who has lived in America, seen the life of 01 people "as is," instead of wo would like for them to be knows what "Mr.

and Mrs. John Smith," is up against. She knows how hopeless has been their chance of getting ahead, the black despair 'that faced them as they contemplated the education of their children, and more even that, their longing for a "home." And one paragraph in her article is woi'th much to thinking people, regardless of Uie "1" complex of most of us. "This is the end of an era," she writes. "Mr.

and Mrs Smith don't forget -that. Forces stronger than economics are at work The social readjustments that the world needs to make have not to do primarily even with the mluistration, any more than the weather bureau creates the weatli it reports." Across from the article by Fanny Hurst, the opposite view of thr present question facing thn nation is expressed by Clare Booth --a writer who hud been In Europe much of the time during the early part nf that conflict. She inncstly hates war as who doer not? But she has been away from for years, and does not that while Europe has been orn by actual war, a revolution, bloodless until now, has been waged for several years In America.
