past Tennessee Vols unable to escape upset loss to Alabama Doyle has come through in pressure situations for the Tide before, but never one much more stressful than Saturday's final play. "I never saw it go through. The first thing I saw was a Tennessee jersey," Doyle said. "The next I knew, my teammates were rolling all over me. It was the biggest kick of my life." Four plays and 1:35 earlier, Volunteer kicker Greg Burke had his chance to put UT in the lead with a 50-yard attempt.

But Alabama's Stacy Harrison had other ideas, rushing in from the middle to block the attempt and send it rolling all the way to the Vol 37. "I think it went farther back than any one I've ever seen blocked," Majors said. Fisher of Milan. "We may have taken them lightly, I don't know." If that was the case, it certainly shouldn't have been. Alabama has now beaten Tennessee five straight years and UT's national-best 12-game unbeaten streak is history.

The Vols' record falls to 4-1-2, 2-1-1 in the Southeastern Conference. Alabama, meanwhile, has now taken a giant step toward reversing a 2-3 start (1-2 SEC) that had some asking for the ouster of new Coach Gene Stallings. The Tide owes much of it to Doyle, a senior all-America candidate who connected on three of four field-goal attempts. Saturday, Doyle hit from 30, 26 and 47 yards to pass former Louisiana State running back Dal-ton Hilliard for fifth on the all-time SEC scoring list. From Wire Reports AUBURN, Ala.

Jim Von Wyl kicked a 38-yard field goal with six seconds left following a fourth-down conversion pass and gave the fifth-ranked Tigers a 20-17 victory against No. 7 Florida State. The noise eruption, which shook jam-packed Jordan Hare Stadium, revealed the perfection of Wyl's kick and the appreciation's for Dye's strategy. The Tigers (5-0-1) benefited from a 22-yard, fourth-down quarterback sack of the Seminoles' Casey Weldon, gained control on the Seminoles' 41 with 1:04 left and drove into position for the winning points.

A fourth-down, 19-yard completion Auburn freshman quarter-; back Stan White to Herbert Casey at the 19 was the pivotal set-up play. It was a loss the Seminoles won't easily absorb. They blew a 17-7 lead 'in the second half and can blame themselves for penalties and questionable play-calling. The defeat also thwarted Florida State coach Bobby Bowden's second attempt at a 200th win. In this game, Dye's coaching 'strategy proved decisive.
