Phillip Coaldale, died Saturday in Coaldale Hospital. He was the husband of Dorothy (Lutz) Edelstein. He practiced law until his retirement in 1961.

Born in Lansford, he was a son of the late Julius and Anna (Loch) Edelstein. He was a member of Trinity Luther: an Church, Lansford, and a veteran of World War I. His widow is the only immediate survivor. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Russel A.

Holmes Funeral Home, 200 E. Bertsch Lansford. Calling hours will be 7-9 p.m. Monday. Bethlehem man dies of gun wound Joseph D.

Mackaravitz, 21, of 827 N. New Bethlehem, was found dead of a gunshot wound Saturday in the apartment of his wife, Joanne (Little) Mackaravitz of 823 E. 4th Bethlehem. Northampton County Coroner Joseph Reichel attributed the death to a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Mackaravitz was a security guard, most recently with Metropolitan Security of Philadelphia.

Born in Bethlehem, he was a son of William and Kathleen (McCarty) Mackaravitz, with whom he resided. He had attended Freedom High School, Bethlehem. Surviving besides his parents and widow are two daughters, Jacinta and Jennifer, both of Bethlehem; a sister, Mrs. Reba Spiker of. Allentown, and two brothers, William Jr.

and Scott, both of Bethlehem. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Wallace M. Long Funeral Home, 500 Linden Bethlehem. Calling hours will be 7-9 p.m.

Tuesday. Paul Ziegler Paul Ziegler, 81, of 231 N. 11th Easton, was found dead in his apartment Friday. He was a silk weaver in area mills. Born in Altoona, he was a son of the late Henry W.

Miles, 85, of New Tripoli R.2 died Saturday at home. She was the' widow of William J. Miles. Born in Catasauqua, she was a daughter of the late William T. and Anna (Bobb) Minnich.

She was a member of Seibert's Evangelical Congregational Church, 10th and Allen streets, Allentown. Surviving are five sons, William J. of New Tripoli R.2, Theodore J. of Santa Clara, and Thomas the Rev. Richard D.

and John all of Allentown; a daughter, Ruth, wife of Gustave Hartlett of Quarry ville, 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Trexler Funeral Home, 1625 Highland Allentown. Calling hours will be p.m. Monday.

Mrs. Fred Laubach Jr. Harriet Laubach, 72, of 844 Pax-inosa Easton, died Friday at home. She was the wife of Fred H. Laubach Jr.

Born in Easton, she was a daughter of the late "Rodney and Olive (Reynolds) Stewart. Mrs. William P. Welty Margaret E. Welty, 67, of 134 Frederick Phillipsburg, died Friday in Warren Hospital.

She was the wife of William P. Welty. Born in Alpha, N.J. she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Elby. rxrai I IvV I XV i I William E.

Derr William E. Derr, 69, of Orefield R.2, a cement worker at the former Fogelsville plant of the Lehigh Portland Cement Co. for 19 years, retiring in 1963, died Saturday in the Allentown and Sacred Heart Hospital Center. He was the husband of Helen L. (Wetzel) Derr.

Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Charles E. and Ellen (Balliet) Derr. Surviving besides his widow are a daughter, Nancy, wife of William Hartman of New Tripoli R.2; three sons, William C. of Paulding, Ohio, Donald W. of Macungie and Carl E.

of Breinigsville R.l; two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Kern of Allentown and Sadie, wife of Francis Weinsteiger of New Berlinville; two brothers, Stanley and Clarence, both of Allentown, and 16 grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Schmoyer Funeral Home, Breinigsville. Calling hours will be p.m.

Tuesday. William D. Byatt William D. Byatt, 79, of 240 Broad Tamaqua, died Friday in Coaldale Hospital. He was the husband of the late Mary Ann (West) Byatt.

He was a foreman for the Lehigh Coal Navigation Co. until retiring. Born in Coaldale, he was a son of the late George and Elizabeth (Davis) Byatt. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Tamaqua. He was an Army veteran of World War I.

Surviving are a son, Robert of Tamaqua, and three grandchildren. Services will be at 11:30 a.m.' Monday in the E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home, 655 E. Broad Tamaqua. A calling hour will be 10:30 a.m.

Griffith, 80, of 717 W. Union Fullerton, died Friday in Allentown Osteopathic Hospital. She was the widow of Lemuel J. Griffith. Born in Cementon, she was a daughter of the late William and Minnie (Seager) Walters.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Fullerton. Surviving are a daughter Jean wife of Robert F. Andrews of Fullerton; two sons, William W. in Hawaii and Robert S.

of Albany, and nine grandchildren and three great-grand-, children. Services will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. The Thomas A. Burkholder Funeral Home, 3rd and Walnut streets, Catasauqua, is in charge of arrangements.

George W. Coffin George W. Coffin, 73, of 32 N. Canal Walnutport, died Friday at the home of his stepdaughter, Mrs. Helen Holben of Neffs.

He was the husband of Corine (Beaber) Esch Coffin. He worked for the Pfizer Paint Mill, Slatington, for 15 years, retiring 10 years ago. Born in Walnutport, he was a son of the late Wesley and Ida (Shoenberger) Coffin. Surviving besides his widow and stepdaughter are another stepdaughter, Mrs. Elsie Reschke of Hay-ward, two sisters, Mrs.

Ida Easterday and Mrs. Alma Fritzinger, both of Walnutport, two grandchildren and one step-grandchild. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the George M. Harding Funeral Home, 25-27 N.

2nd Slatington. There will be no calling hours. George M. Raines Jr. George M.

Raines 63, of 2707 Whitewopd Drive. Hanover Township. Northampton County, died Friday at home. He was the husband of Irma I Ambrose) Raines. He was a supervisor of job evaluation in the industrial engineering department of Bethlehem Steel retiring in 1975.

Born in Bethlehem, he was a son of the late George M. and Blanche iZcllers) Raines Sr. He was a member of Central Moravian Church, Bethlehem. Surviving besides his widow are a stepson, William Benedict of Bethlehem; a sister, Mrs. Melvin Hay of Bethlehem, and a step-granddaughter.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Snyder-Hinkel Funeral Home, 527 Center Bethlehem. There will be no calling hours. Michael Yurchak Michael Yurchak. 59, of 230 E.

Fishe Coaldale, was dead on arrival Saturday at Coaldale Hospital. Henry R. Janssen Henry R. Janssen, 82, of 322 S. Arch Allentown, died Saturday in the Allentown and Sacred Heart Hospital Center.

He was the husband of the late Josephine (Klarer) Janssen. He was a machinist for the Pennsylvania Railroad, retiring in 1959. He was an Army veteran of World War I. Born in Jersey City, N.J., lie was a son of the late Charles and Anna (Bachman) Janssen. Surviving are a son, Henry T.

of Allentown; a daughter, Jo, wife of William Donlon of Chicago; a brother, William of New York, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home, 1601 Hamilton Allentown. A calling hour will be 9:30 a.m.

Tuesday until time of services. Rudolph Schrantz Rudolf Schrantz, 78, of Nazareth R.l, died Saturday in Easton Hospital. He was the husband of the late Sabina (Wiener) Schrantz. He worked for Hercules Cement, Stockertown, for 37 years, retiring in 1963. Born in Austria, he was a son of the late Kosmas and Uxelena (Frenz) Schrantz.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Nazareth. Surviving are two daughters, Hermine, wife of Frank Keglovitz, with whom he resided, and Mary, wife of Henry Eckhart of Easton; a son, Joseph of Phillipsburg; a sister, Mrs. Johanna Schwartz of Vienna, Austria, 13 grandchildren and seven greatgrandchildren. Services will be at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday in the Reichel Funeral Home, 220 Washington Park, Nazareth, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m.

Reph, died in 1957. Born in Moore Township, she was a daughter of the late Sylvester and Hannah (Remaly) Arndt She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, Moore town. Surviving besides her son are a sister, Mrs. Ervin West of Bath R.l, two grandchildren and a great-grandson. Services will be at 2 p.m.

Carrie M. Anders, 93, of 44 E. Spruce St, Bethlehem, died Saturday in the Mary Ellen Convalescent Home, Hellertown. She was the widow of James F. Anders.

She was an assistant cook at Walp's Restaurant, Allentown, retiring In 1958. Born in Bethlehem, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Buss. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs.

William Clark, with whom she resided; a son, William of Bethlehem; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Wallace M. Long Funeral Home, 500 Linden Bethlehem. A calling hour will be 7-8 p.m.

Edward Sassaman of 606 Pine Tamaqua. N. American unit proposed for WCC A move toward forming a North American regional unit of the World Council of Churches was advanced last week at a meeting in Toronto attended by Dr. John S. Groenfeldt of Beth- lehem.

Dr. Groenfeldt, an officer of the U.S. conference of the World Council and president of the Northern Province of the Moravian Church, represented U.S. member churches at the meeting with Canadian church leaders. He explained that a regional unit would replace the present U.S.

conference of the WCC, which has long maintained an office In New York. Dr. Groenfeldt said there was general agreement in Toronto for the Initiation of some means of bringing the leadership of the churches together on common concerns, such as the question of human righU. A small work group was named to compile a report on cooperative plans for presentation at a March 8 meeting of the U.S. section.

and Mrs. Peter Melendez of 948 Sullivan Bethlehem. Woman will seek school board seat Mrs. Judy Mackes, 36. of Northampton R.2 has announced she will seek a seat on the Northampton Area School Board representing Lehigh and Allen townships.

She will run for the seat held by Philip Riegel. A registered Democrat, Mrs. Mackes will cross-file for the primary in May. "I feet the people should get the best education possible for all students without overburdening the taxpayer. I'd like to see tax monies spent more efficiently, Mrs.

Mackes said. "I would like to represent the public. I don't feel the directors now welcome phone calls and letters. I want to know what the people want when it's time to vote. "Since I don't work, I can devote as much time as I need to the people I represent," Mrs.

Mackes said. A graduate of Liberty High school, she has lived In the district 10 years. Mrs. Mackes ispresident of the junior high school PTA and a member of the Lehigh Elementary PTA. New counselors Two new vocational rehabilitation counselors have been appointed to the Allentown office of the Pennsylvania Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation, George Kimock, district office administrator, announced recently.

They are John Hunsicker of Ger-mansville and Peter Lento of Nor-ristown. Hunsicker, a counselor at the Lehigh County Prison until his recent appointment, is a graduate of Allen High School and Bloomsburg State College.
