The sound of the station also will be improved through technical adjustments made during the six hours between the death of WRJX and the birth of WMXX Friday, Faulk and Douglas said. WRJX's announcers have been invited to stay. "Their talent really has not been tapped with the present format," Faulk said. WRJX, formerly been on the air since 1979.

WDXI has been in operation since 1948. WDXI's news staff will be expanded from one full-time and one part-time person to three full-timers, Faulk said. "We'll be making a further commitment to do even better as far as news and information is concerned," he said. WDXI also will be the local outlet for University of Tennessee football, he said. CR Broadcasting will continue to research the market and invites comments from its listeners about its stations, Faulk said.

The stations will emphasize community involvement more than before, Faulk and Columbus have said. The company also will continue to grow, Douglas said. The new owners of WDXI-AM and WRJX-FM are changing WRJX's name and format, replacing the rock-n'-roll sound with a blend of adult contemporary music from the 1960s, '70s and '80s.

"The new radio station will be born and come to life Friday morning," said John Faulk, general manager. WMXX, Jackson's "Magic Mix," as its owner, CR Broadcasting calls it, will be launched at 6 a.m. Friday, in WRJX's old slot, 103.1 FM. This weekend, the first of a series of special weekend programs, will be devoted to the Motown sound and other "Big Chill-era" music from the 1960s and early '70s. Smokey Robinson and Lionel Richie will be hosts for a five-hour special Sunday, starting at 4 p.m.

James Taylor, Jennifer Warren, Kenny Rogers and Barry Manilow are a few of the entertainers who will be featured regularly on WMXX. The new format comes three months after CR Broadcasting bought the stations from Community Service of Mount Vernon, 111. They were part of a six-station package bought by John Columbus, a radio executive, and Dennis Rooker, a Charlottesville, lawyer. The stations were CR Broadcasting's first; the company has located its corporate 20 1282 1 10 781 13 4632 19 81818 91 46 27 Vh 67 34A 11 15 15 42 6073 46 1 18 1229 40 11 439 33 to 21 1004 95' 1 10259 u45to 14 540 72 17 3714 731 14 4983 54 14 1805 B3'1 15 95 34' 10 750 44' to 16 23 16 15 970 111 711 33 24 9 19 11 1203 31' to 8 833 23 8 461 48 11 417 110' 31 37' to 10 127 27 15 133 52 to 19 1751 1653 19 291 26 9936 73 17 943 51 to 24 40 3 23 29- 44 1 60 25 60 to 18 to 135 138 517 16 239 191248 15 142 17 351 30 3326 HeclaM Heilmn.60 Herculsl.76 Hrshy s.54 HewlPk.22 Holidy HollySI Hmitke.20 16 X810 84' Yesterdays closings supplied by J.C Bradford Additional stocks AMR ARX ASA2a AbtLb Si AetnLf2.74 AirPrd.80 AlskAir.U Alcan.80 AlcoStdl.28 Alglnt AllaPwi.92 Allegist AldSgnll.80 AllisCh Amax AmHes ABrnd S2.M ACvan2.10 ACvan wl AEIPW2.24 AmExpl.52 AExpwl AFaml 22 AHome3.34 Amrtc sS AlnGr s.25 AmMot AmStdl.M AmStor.84 Ametekl Amoco3.30 AMP.80 Anacmp Anadrk.30 Anchor! .48 Anheu s.48 Anthny s.44 ArchOn Armco ArmWI Asarco AshlOill.60 AtlRich4 AtlasCp Augat.40 AVMC.S0 Averv Avnet.SO Avon2 4 598 21 12 100'- Chip Douglas John Faulk headquarters in Madison County. WDXI will retain its country format, with an increased emphasis on news and information, Faulk said.

CR Broadcasting decided to change the format of the FM station after surveys of the area showed adult listeners ages 25 to 44 were "totally unserved" by a radio station, Faulk said. However, the younger listeners of WRJX had at least three radio stations serving them, he said. "The people that we interviewed expressed dissatisfaction with what they were hearing on the radio," said Chip Douglas, national programming director for CR Broadcasting. People responding to surveys were saying, 'We want a station that simply plays music we Faulk said. "And there'll be some new songs in there, too," added Douglas, who will be host for a morning slot on the new FM radio station.
