The Associated Press AUBURN, Ala. No. 22 Auburn overcame four early turnovers to ensure its first winning season since 1990, getting three touchdown passes from Stan White in a 31-17 victory over State Saturday. The Tigers (6-0 overall, 4-0 SEC) had lost two years in a row to Mississippi State, but this is a different Auburn team than the one that stumbled to records of 5-6 and 5-5-1. 1 White was intercepted three times by State (1-4, 0-3) but shrugged it off to throw scoring passes of 57 yards to Frank Sanders, 35 to Steven Davis and 7 to Tony Richardson.

Richardson also ran for a touchdown as the Tigers piled up 278 yards on the ground. James Bostic led with 141 yards on 20 carries. By JOHN DENTON The Jackson Sun What was already a bad situ- -ation at the half Saturday night for the Lane College Dragons, only got worse in the second half. Sixth-ranked Langston (Okla.) College built a two-touchdown lead in the first half, then returned the second halfs opening kickoff for a score as the Lions 35-straight points en route to a 49-12 victory over Lane College Saturday night at Itothrock Stadium. I "I definitely thought we were still in the game at the half and they returned the opening kick-off and that just took our spirit away," said first-year Lane coach Craig Gilliam. "It's just extremely frustrating right how, because we're not playing very well." The loss drops Lane College to 1-4 on the season. The Dragons ended their 28-game losing streak two weeks ago with a win over Kentucky State, but have now lost their last two.

They just thought we'd come back and die, but obviously we didn't" The Wildcats led 18-17 entering the fourth quarter, but Kentucky Wesleyan quarterback Bobby Ratcliffs 2-yard touchdown run with 14:33 left gave the Panthers (3-3) the win.

"I think the guys played well," Bethel coach Dick Adams said. "They played right to the end, and that's all you can ask. "Last week's loss left a bad taste in their mouths. This time we had a good team effort If they go out and play like that every week, I will not be disappointed. They hustled out there and played with a lot of spirit" The Wildcats trailed 7-6 in the second quarter when Elmon Butts gave them the lead with a 76-yard punt return for a touchdown.
