The victory kept alive the Sounds' playoffs hopes. Nashville (73-67) is now a half-game back of division leader Memphis (73-66). "They never gave up," Sounds Manager Don Money said.

"After the first few innings, everybody really had a great night. They (Memphis) have a really good team over there." The Sounds, who had lost their past two games, end the regular season with a four-game series at New Orleans beginning tonight. Nashville was down 6-1 heading into the seventh inning before the offense got going. Johnny Raburn hit a two-run home run to cut the lead to 6-3, and Tike Redman followed with a RBI sacrifice fly. Corey Patterson followed that with an RBI double to cut the lead to 6-5.

Then Adam Heether provided the big shot, a two- Marlins 8, Braves 3 run home run to left to give Nashville a 7-6 lead. Heether also had a solo home run to left in the first inning. "I was just barely missing the ball the last couple of days," Heether said. "I just kept believing and thankfully things went my way tonight." With the regular season closing fast, there is still a three-team fight to win the Pacific Coast League's American Northern Division. Iowa is also in the mix with Nashville and Memphis, and only the division winner will advance to the postseason.

If the Sounds end the regular season tied with Iowa, Nashville would win the tiebreaker because it owns a 9-7 record against the Cubs. Should the Sounds and Memphis end the regular season tied, Nashville also would win that tiebreaker because it has a 10-6 season record against the Redbirds. If there is a three-way tie between Nashville, Memphis and Iowa, the tiebreaker will be a team's cumulative record against the other two teams. Nashville has a 19-13 record, Memphis is 13-19 and Iowa is 16-16. Reach Bryan Mullen at 615-259-8017 or bmulleniatennessean.com.
