The Jackson Son, Jackson, Tennessee, Sunday, February 3, 1 980 5C ports TKO Lobez Sdnchez scores over the live gate after taxes. There was no firm figure on Saturday's crowd, but it was considerably less than promoters had hoped for. "Sanchez's contract called for $25,000 and a three-fight option with Five-Star Promotions if he won the title. VjrSr I lb''-' I PHOENIX, Ariz. (AP) Salvador "Sanchez scored a bloody 13th-round technical knockout over a courageous Danny "Little Red" Lopez to win the World Boxing Council featherweight championship Saturday.

'Sanchez, of Mexico City, was far ahead on the cards of all three judges when referee Waldemar Schmidt stopped the bout 51 seconds into th'e 13th round. The bout had been interrupted twice earlier in the sixth and seventh rounds when Schmidt asked Dr. Charles Lake to check cuts over Lopez's eyes. Blood was streaming down the fighter's face, but Lake ruled that the cuts were not deep enough to stop the fight and allowed it to Lopez cut Sanchez once in the 10th round, but Sanchez's corner closed it quickly and he did not bleed again. There were no knockdowns in the fight.

Sanchez's victory brought his record to 33-1-1, while Lopez lost only for the second time in his career and now is 44-2. A relatively unmarked Sanchez held a post-fight press conference, but Lopez was whisked away by his handlers, and did not meet with reporters or'WBC welterweight champ Sugar Ray Leonard, who waited outside Lopez's dressing room to console him. Lopez's condition was not immediately known.
