(P) Pennsylvania, Missouri Wake Forest and Texas are favorites today in the feature games on college football's Thanksgiving fare. ruled a seven-point choice Cornell in the headline over I vt 4 iASHES with Turkey, OH! A great big fellow Fruits so ripe, so rich and mellow Everything so nice to eat More than we can now repeat That's Thanksgiving Was that in your book, ItH probably be turkey, cran berry sauce, hot rolls and stuff for those in the higher brackets who stay at home. But for the sporting fan it'll probably be a pre-game hotdog heavyonthemustard; a first quarter coke (with a possible assortment of grog and peach juice) and a halftime cup of ja-moke.

On the return trip home this meager menu may be supplemented with a pig sandwich We trust that there will be no moaning at the bar as we reach the end of the pigskin campaign, and we-leave you for a busy indoor campaign. In departing, we are confusing all the experts by predicting a most stunning upset of the year Navy over Army Activator action -0 MUSES to sweet-smelling NEW YORK. Nov. 25 C-T Oregon became a "dark horse" possibility for the Cotton Bowl today as sponsors of the three big southern Jan. 1 shows continued their search for attractive talent.

First, Coach Jim Aiken of the Webfoots, whose boys were edged out of the Rose Bowl by California, announced he would welcome a bid from one of the bigger attractions such as the Orange, Sugar or Cotton Bowls. Then an unofficial report came cut of Dallas that Cotton Bowl sponsors might take Oregon up on that if North Carolina didn't hurry up and make up its mind. North Carolina is said to be the Southern Methodist's No. 1 choice as an opponent at Dallas New Year's Day. But the Tar Heels, with the Sugar Bowl probably also beckoning, haven't rushed up to snap the bait.

Cotton Bowl officials took cognizance of Oregon by saying they believed the Pacific Coast Conference would permit Oregon to play if the Webfoots were invited. Meanwhile, the Sugar Bowl directors at New Orleans and the Orange Bowl crowd at Miami remained mum about their progress in lining up a program. Both are expected to announce after Saturday's games. Oklahoma, the Big Seven champion which is figured a good bowl bet, also announced its vailability. Members of the team said they'd consider any bowl invitation if they won over Oklahoma A.

This is the week when fans and teams shoot the works. They don't look forward to the next game because the next game, in most cases, is 10 months away vrrangle of the day a clash for the Ivy League championship at Penn's Franklin Field. A sellout crowd of 78,118 was expected to watch the two eastern standouts tie into each other at Philadelphia. Penn has bowed to Army and Penn State in seven games. Cornell has lost only to Army in eight.

Neither is beaten in the league. Texas, holding a mathematical chance to tie Southern Methodist for the Southwest Conference crown, is conceded a 15-point edge over Texas A. and M. at Austin. The Longhorns' hopes for a title look-in depend on an S.

M. U. loss Saturday to Texas Christian. Missouri and Kansas play Columbia, with Missouri a 20 point favorite in a game that decides the runnerup spot in the Big Seven. Oklahoma's Sooners have clinched the title.

Wake Forest, already named to play in the Dixie Bowl at Birmingham, rates eight points better than South Carolina in the eyes of the odds-makers. They meet at Columbia. S. C. Another conference championship may be decided today out in the Rocky Mountain territory.

Utah can put the Big Six crown under lock and key by whipping Utah State at Salt Lake City. Wyoming goes to Denver in a rival attraction. Other games today: Virginia Military Instiute at Virginia Tech, Washington and Lee at Richmond; Furman vs. Davidson at Charlotte; Kansas State at St. Louis; Neveda at Wichita; Colgate at Brown; San Francisco at St.

Army and Navy, meet in their traditional contest at Philadelphia with the all-conquering Cadets rated 20 points better than a Middle outfit that has lost all of its eight starts. Neyland Gives Thanks For End Jim Powell, Tennessee Leader Justice Could Sei New Kicking Record In Virginia Game NEW YORK, Nov.

25 If Charlie Justice of North Carolina is in good kicking form against Virginia Saturday, he may set a new collegiate punting record. The Tar Keels triple-threat star neeiis only to stay close to his present average of 44.3 yards a kick to surpass the all-time mark for a college punter who has thrown a toe into 50 or more. That record is now held by Leslie Palmer of North Carolina State, who set it last year by booming 65 punts an average of 43.3 yards. At any rate, it appears that either Justice or Hall Haynes of Santa Clara will wind up with the college kicking championship. Haynes, now booting an average of 44.1 yards on 41 kicks, gets a chance to better his average when Santa Clara plays Michigan State Saturday.

The pass-receiving crown also appears to be a wide open affair that probably will be decided this week. The present leader is Johnny Quinn of Wake Forest, who has caught 35. Jim Powell of Tennessee has 34, followed by Bob Mc-Chesney of Hardin-Simmons and Jim Likens of Washington and Lee with 32 each. When Vanderbilt meets Tennessee at Nashville, the Commodores' Lee Nalley will be trying to add to his punt runback Nalley broke the all-time record of 616 by Bill Geyer of Colgate in 1941 when he pushed his total yardage to 623 istst week. John Freeman of Portland maintains his lead in kickoff returns with 503 yards.

Bill Olson of Columbia, whose season is completed, has eight pass interceptions to pace that specialty, but Eli Mari-cick of Georgia who has seven, can pass him with a couple of interceptions against Georgia Tech Saturday. The ten departmental leaders: Punting Boston, Montana State, 44.4 yards; Justice, North Carolina, 44.3; Haynes, Santa Clara, 44.1; Eddleman, Illinois, 42.9; Stom-baugh, Furman 42.1, Brogan, Idaho, 41.8; Walker, Southern Methodist, 41.4; Wendt, Texas Mines, 41.3; Collins, Louisiana State, 41.2; Ferguson, Nebraska, 41.4. every able-bodied man on the squad, Mississippi Southern swamped the outclassed Union University Bulldogs of Jackson, 47-8 here tonight in the final game of the season for both teams. The Southerners tallied two touchdowns in the first period, three in the second, were held scoreless in the third and added their final two in the fourth quarter. Union picked up a touchdown and a safety late in the last period. In order, Southern's touchdowns were scored on a 13 -yard pass from Frank Spruiell to Hindu Reynolds; an eighty-yard off-tackle smash by Spruiell; 46-yard dash around end by Bubber Phillips; 17-yard end sweep by Morris Brown; 17-yard cut-back off tackle by Ed Langford; plunge by Fred Waters following recovery of a Union fumble on the one-yard line and a pass good for 57 yards from Wayne Jackson to Cliff Coggin. The Bulldogs tallied the only time they got past the 50-yard line, the payoff going on a 44-yard pass from Jody Ellis to Billy Matthews.

A few moments later Matthews blocked a bunt by Sonny Carr on the Southern 18-yard line, the ball rolled back into the end zone and Carr recovered for a safety. Doug Honaker kicked four extra points and Chicken Howard one for Southern. Florida is up and coming. Alabama is down and going. But neither team has passed the point where the Aligators would have a Chinaman's chance to win.

The Crimson Tide by a hindside. Ha! it rhymes The lanky Vol end and captain will sing his Tennessee football swan song Saturday at Nashville against Vanderbilt, but it probably will be a long time before Neyland forgets him. Powell is "a truly it football player," says the big Vol mentor. It is rare, indeed, that Neyland uses the word "great" in describing a football player. But Neyland pulls all the stops when he gets on the subject of his favorite end.

Here's what he says of the 25-year old Miamian: "Powell is a wonderful leader and a constant threat. He has an uncanny ability to get into the open and has few equals as a pass receiver. He is thoroughly outstanding in all phases of end play." The record backs up Neyland's words. Powell was Tennessee's leading scorer in 1946 with 42 points from seven touchdown passes. Last year he again led the Vols in scoring with 36 points on five touchdowns and six extra points.

He is second in scoring this season with 26 points scored on two touchdowns and 14 extra points. The 190-pound Wingman has been one of college football's front-running pass receivers all fall. He has snagged 34 for 435 yards and currently ranks third in the nation in this department. Arkansas could beat William with a little oomph and Mary (not to be confused with the one who had a little lamb) wouldn't have a chance. But William and Mary together, party of the first part in the coming Delda dandy, might give the Razorbacks a heavy pounding.

However, for alphabetical reasons, we'll stick with Arkansas 14-12 To be certain we get same right in finishing out the season, we'll take Clemson over Auburn by 27 points, Kentucky over Miami by 12. Georgia could win the Southeastern silverware with a victory here. Georgia 13, Tech 10 stopped the fight in tne crucial third fall because of roughness and the bruised condition of Kirlenko.

Riley and Kirlenko had fought nearly an hour, a furious struggle all the way, with Kirlenko winning the first fall and losing the second. Referee Everett Dunbar awarded the match to Riley. Champion Herb Welch had agreed to stake his title in a match with if Kirlenko defeated Riley. In the preliminary number. Moody Palmer defeated Bill Coz-zell, first and third falls.

The Vols practiced this Thanksgiving morning so they have most of the holiday for leisure. They went through a limite.1 offensive scrimmage in a final brushing up of their attack for the Commodores. Their last workout before the important clash is set for Friday afternoon. It will be mostly a limbering up affair, then the Vols will get ready to leave by train for Nashville Friday night. Yesterday they concentrated on defense.
