The linemen and groundmen represented the Jackson Electric Department, TVA, Southwest Tennessee Electrical Membership McMillan Electric Company and Townsend Electric Company.

Lending assistance to the project were the usual hard-working group of Jaycees, some 10 to 15 teen-agers and a number of other volunteers. Carpenter W. H. "Catfish" Jones labored trielessly on the concession stand flanked by James Lemons of Bemis, who worked all day and furnished his truck for hauling. John Osborne and George Pink-erton completed installation of drinking fountains at each dugout.

In the doubleheader at Hopkinsville last night, Jackson pitchers hurled well but were hurt by poor infield support. Jim Kluck was particularly effective in the second game but home runs by Barry Bott with one on and by Dick Ramsey with none on base spelled his doom.

He has been with five minor-league clubs without having had much chance to show his ability. Not every ballplayer gets a fair chance.

The Yankees let Jim Greengrass go and he's probably a better outfielder than any they have. At least he's a better hitter than any Yankee fielder is now. Branch Rickey let Gus Bell go and he is certainly a better ballplayer than any man on the Pirate club. The Yankees traded Bob Porter-field and Spec Shea and both now match up with the best of the Yankee pitching stars. So it occurs to me that Robert Lee Turley has deserved a better chance than he has drawn so far.

2 0 NEWARK, N. i. fir jm NEA Sports Writer NEW YORK. May 8 (NEA) Three years a practically everybody had accepted Nelson Fox as quite a second baseman. Paul Richards said he couldn't make the double play well enough to beat the Yankees.

It seems that Nellie Fox had a little trouble going to the bag with the wrong foot. It was costing him a step in making the pivot. As recently as this spring. Manager Richards considered switching little Foxie to third base. But Fox's fault haj been eliminated, which is one of the principal reasons why the Chicago Americans have been bitten by the pennant bug.

Marty Marion is credited with Fox's improvement in the very important department of the double killing and knocking the other side out of a big inning. When Slats Marion told Arthur Ehlers the truth about the Orioles and began being paid $35,000 for not managing them. Richards had his No one ever made the double play better than the long-time Mr. Shortstop. Looking over the pitching stuff we still find where the late confederacy had a lasting influence on big-league pitching. We began looking up more about Trice of the Athletics who shut out the Yankees.

We find his full name is also Robert Lee Trice. That makes two new pitchers who have been named after the great confederate leader. Trice is also 6 feet 3 inches in height, weighing around 190 pounds. He is a first-class pitcher and will bag a number of games for the Athletics who are proving somewhat of a surprise even to Eddie Joost. Joost Is Top Leader Joost is a first-class leader.

He and Birdie Tebbetts are two managers who belong on the job. They are intelligent hustlers, always working for the team. No other manager in either league is keener to win. Here are two selections that belong. The Athletics may not be able to keep up the early pace but you can keep an eye on Cincinnati's Redlegs.

Here is a real ball club with as much power as the Dodgers carry. Pitching is the question mark. While you are watching the scenery, it might be just as well to keep both eyes on Ned Carver of the Tigers. Ned was a star pitcher, even with the Browns. Then he hurt his knee and was moved over to the Tigers.

The knee is O.K. now and today Ned is one of the best pitchers in the game. There has been more strength shown by the underdogs in both leagues than we had expected to see this early in the season.
