Unknowingly, by their vain display of tabs, rosettes and chicken-feathers, they advertised the very number and scope of their detested corps whereas, in New York, if a stranger with a bag on bellies up to a bar and picks a fight with a taxpayer there is nothing in the cut of his Jib to identify him as a justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, although he will not wait long to proclaim himself and the degradation of his bench. This should be corrected. They all should have wear some badge or patch on cap or sleeve, none should have a vote in any public election and all should be paid off to date in settlement of claims for pensions in excess of the standard old-age rates for social security.

As proposed, the law would: 1. Provide for reciprocal inspection agreements among Tennessee counties and with other states.

2. Ban sale of adulterated, mis-branded or unsanitary milk in Tennessee. 3. Provide regular inspection of plant, or producers, shippers, processors and distributors by the state health department. Dr.

R. H. Hutcheson, state health commissioner, said enforcement of state milk regulations now falls to the State Agriculture Department. "It is directed more toward the butterfat and chemical content of milk than toward the bacteriological quality," he observed. There are civil service publications which make a regular journalism exclusively in the field of opportunity, rumors, new discoveries of loop-holes and legislation. Civil service jobs are secure when the citizen taxpayers, who must pay their salaries, are laid off. The civil service pensions are vastly better than the social security dole. When Pel came to the United States, "America made you open your lungs wide and inhale great gulps of freedom-laden air, for here was freedom from government." This immigrant youth came looking for liberty. Democracy was no enticement.

The country that he came from was no less democratic than the United States. "Italy was a constitutional monarchy," he wrote, "with a parliament, free and frequent elections, lots of political parties and plenty of freedom of religion, speech, press and assembly. But It was government-ridden. A vast bureaucracy held it in countless tentacles. The government was everywhere.

Wherever one looked one saw the ever-present government uniforms of "numberless royal, rural and municipal policemen, soldiers, gold-braided functionaries of all sorts." There were thousands of military dudes in sweeping capes with baubles on their tunics telling of mud and thatch villages conquered in gallant forays in Africa. Even a tax-collector at the town gate, taking a tiny duty on a fish or a hunk of cheese, wore a uniform. The young Italian who got sick of all this and came here to means you can buy cided to study the reading matter of boys all over America. His studies led to the discovery that the quality and quantity of books available for bovs to read was sadly lacking. He determined to make reading an important part of the Boy Scout program, and persuaded book stores in many cities to devote one week in November to the promotion of Boys reading.

After World War I book publishers and librarians backed the movement, making girls' reading also a part of Book Week. Since then the movement has grown each year, and is celebrated in schools and libraries, and book stores, and by all who like to read books. Of course, every week is Book Week at your public library, whether this library is large or small, a county library or a small deposit station serviced by the bookmobile. Many books to prove that "Reading is Fun" will be found by those using the libraries. That reading is also useful will be noted, by the large numbers of non-fiction books of the "how-to-do-it" type to be found on library shelves, Miss Wilson said.

A of the newer books available through the County and Regional Libraries are as follows: The Silver Chalice, by Thomas Costain The Glitter and the Gold, by Consuelo Vanderbilt Balsan; Cumberland Rifles, by Noel B. Gerson; Windows for the Crown Prince, by Elizabeth Gray "Vining: The Lemon Jelly Cake, by Madeline Babcock Smith; Queen's Gift, by Inglis Fletcer; The Old Man and the Sea, by Ernesf Hemingway; Matador, by Conrad Barnsby; The Tundra World, by Theodora St anwell-Fletcher Meetinghouse Hill, by Ola Elizabeth Winslow; The Great Enterprise, by Harry that car on eaiy terms." -1M First in Financing acceptance corp.
