The Ouaohiaa River Consolidated Line steamer Ouachita will leave to-morrow for Monroe.

The St. Louis and Mississippi Valley Transportation Company's steamer Henry Lowrey will arrive to-day and leave tomorrow for St. Louis. On account of a falling off In shipments. Captain John F.

Aiken, of the Horse Shoe Line, yesterday concluded to lay np the steamer Whisper, and until further notice will run the steamer Belle of the Coast as a Tuesday. Thursday aud Saturday paoket to Donaldsonville, New Hope and way landings. The Beaver arrived at Willow Grove yesterday morning from Pittsburg, with fourteen boats loaded with coal, consigned to W. G. Wilmot and started back last night, Coming down sho dropped two boats at Baton Rouge.

The 8. L. Wood arrived last evening with fourteen boats loaded with ooal for Wood, Sohneldau te Co. A few miles above Baton Rouge the Wood broke one of her rudders and waa assisted the balance the trip by the tug joe Seay. Captain Lew Kates' elegant side-wheel steamer New Mary Houston will arrive to leave Thursday for Cincinnati and way landings.

The government steamer General Newton leaves this morning for Prophet's Island after two barges ot willows to be used in the harbor here. The Red River Line steamer Nat F. Dertch arrived at Alexandria at 3 p. m. yesterday with 800 bales of cotton for reship-nient by rail to this oity.

The valley Queen, en route to Shreveport, passed Alexandria at noon yesterday. Assistant Local Inspectors Kelly and Hatchings yesterday Inspected the G. W. Eentell and found her all O. K.

To-day the Inspectors will examine the Alice LeBlano, Henry Marx and Governor F. T. Niebolls. Engineer Frank Hay will leave this morning tor Shreveport to go on the C. Sat-terlee, and Engineer J.

Wiokes and Carpenter Davidson will leave for Alexandria to take positions on the Nat F. Dortch. Chief Clerk Eugene Barrow and a couple of others of the crew of the Dortch will come down by rail froin Alexandria to-day to go on the Jno. D. Scully when she starts out.

I. The funeral of the wife of Commodore P. P. Manion took place in St. Louis on Saturday last.

The little Tennessee river steamer Herbert, which sunk recently and was taken to the government headquarters at the canal and repaired, started on her lourney again on Friday, and had proceeded a short distance below lock No. 9, when she struck some obstruction and went down once more. The boat Is thought to be badly dam seed. A dispatch from Cairo states that the steamer J. Long, which was a failure in the Cairo and Cape Girardeau trade, has started for New Orleans to be sold or enter a small trade.

From here up the speed slackened, as the water was shoal In places, and the engines were slowed occasionally.

The same year the Natchea and R. E. Lee ran from New Orleans to Natchea dnrlng October at the rate of 17 miles an hour. This Is the fastest speed ever recorded on the Mississippi axainst the current. The Peytona, Captain Shadcross, with Henry Clay aa a passenger, onoe ran from Evansvllle to Louisville, a dlstanoe of 200 miles.

In 13 hours, or nearly lAft miles an hour, and this is tne fastest reoora over that part of the Ohio. The Eclipse made the same run IS hours and 8 minutes.
