FROM THE COVERNATION Tuesday, October 2, 2007 2 AThe Jackson Sun Jaxx Cleveland mom arrested in bathtub deaths of 2 girls Paid attendance at this season's games increased by 16,929, to finish at 113,351. That is a 17.6 percent increase over last season's 96,422 paid attendance. nice girl. It's real sad." Stacho said the girls apparently drowned, but autopsies were pending Tuesday to officially determine the causes of death. The county coroner was trying to confirm the victims' correct names Monday.

Hurt said the woman had taken good care of the children. "She always had her kids dressed up, with hair done every day," Hurt said. "They were well-behaved kids. They played jump rope and would write on the ground with chalk." apartment, where she would not answer questions apart from her name, age and address, Stacho said. No charges had been filed, but she remained in jail Monday night.

"At this point she's our only suspect," Stacho said. Deondra Hurt, 19, who lives in the same two-story apartment building, said she heard the girls' father screaming and shouting. She later went to the apartment and saw their mother "on a couch, and she was just sitting there. She was a Cintron, told police he went to the woman's apartment and pulled the girls from the water in the bathtub. "Both my daughters are laying here dead! Why? Why are my daughters dead?" a weeping Cintron screamed during a 911 call.

Stacho said the girls were placed on life support by a city medical services crew and were pronounced dead at MetroHealth Medical Center. Police arrested the 22-year-old woman for questioning at her ordered the owner of a South Jackson motel also surveyed in the August inspections to clear out his tenants by month's end and repair or tear down the building by the end of November. If Robert Jones, the owner of the Payless Motel on South Highland Avenue, does not comply, the building could be demolished and the cost charged to him, according to the order. The city will assist residents who need help finding a new home, the order says. The order also requires Jones to "They did not have a team at the time," Reese said.

"Don Mincher was our GM (general manager) in Huntsville, and he is now the president of the Southern League." A graduate of the University of Tennessee-Martin, Reese is co-owner of Haury Smith Contractors in Nashville. The company develops single-family condominiums and other real estate development projects. "The largest project in Nashville is a 220-unit, senior living development in the area called Morning-side near CoolSprings Galleria Continued from cover agreement to purchase the team from the Lozinaks," said Reese Smith, a member of the investment group. A Nashville developer, Smith said all the members in his group live within middle-Tennessee. He said he could not disclose the names of the other members of his partnership until the purchase is finalized.

"There are a half dozen or less in the ownership group," he said, "and because of the approval process, I need to keep them out of it, but I will disclose that later this year." David Lozinak, vice president of administration for the Jaxx, also said he could not comment on the purchase agreement Monday. The sale of the team still must clear several hurdles, including approval by the Southern League of Professional Baseball, and Minor and Major League Baseball. Reese's application to buy the Diamond Jaxx already is on file with the Southern League, a spokeswoman for the league said Monday. Reese has a history in baseball, including holding "a very, very minor interest in the partnership" that owns the Nashville Sounds, the Triple-A franchise of the Milwaukee Brewers, said Glenn Yaeger, Sounds general manager. Reese said Monday that his investment group does not intend to move the Jaxx if their purchase is approved.

"We have every intention of keeping it in Jackson, Tennessee. There is one year left on the lease, and we will be in contact with city officials," Reese said. "It is a great ballpark, in a growing community. The development around- that park is phenomenal." The Jaxx Pringles Park lease agreement with the city of Jackson expires at the end of 2008, insuring that the team will remain in Jackson at least until the end of next season. "It is business as usual," said Jaxx General Manager Jeff Parker.

"We are gearing up for the 2008 season, and looking forward to improving our attendance again in 2008." The first attempt to purchase the Jaxx from Lozinak Baseball Properties fell through in November. At that time, a group of 29 individual investors working under the corporate name of Diamond Jaxx Baseball Properties failed to meet specific deadlines needed for approval of the team's sale. That near sale was fronted by Tim Bennett, of Mississippi-based Overtime Sports. Bennett is not a member of the new ownership group seeking to purchase the Diamond Jaxx.

Reese and his organization must meet several criteria before their purchase of the Jaxx is approved. "They (baseball) will look at the financial structure, and do a background check on the possible future owners to make sure there is no disqualifying features such as the ownership of a casino," said Scott Poley, general council for Minor League Baseball. He said prospective team buyers also cannot represent any players on any league level. He said closing a proposed purchase agreement usually takes an average of 60 days. "That includes all three leagues, assuming they get us a completed package," Poley said.

Baseball rules do not require Reese to sell his ownership in the Triple-A Nashville Sounds because that team is not in the Southern League with the Jaxx, Poley said. "They are a member of the Pacific Coast League, so that would not be a conflict in duel ownership," he said. Yaeger also said he saw no reason for Reese to divest himself of the Sounds. Jackson Mayor Jerry Gist said Reese's organization's ties to Tennessee should insure the team remains in Jackson for several years. "I think any Tennessee ties that the owners have lends itself to keeping the team here," he said.

Godwin said witnesses saw two unidentified men running from the area where investigators believe the shooting occurred and other witnesses reported hearing gunfire. Godwin said investigators had no evidence that Bradford was involved in any illegal activity. "Everything I've heard about him he was just a good kid," Godwin said.

Bradford, a 5-foot-ll, 300-pound defensive lineman, was a junior who transferred to Memphis last year after two seasons at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala. The Nashville resident was to have begun playing for the Tigers this season. Monday afternoon, several football players and others tied a large red ribbon to the tree Bradford struck with his car and put up a large poster board for friends and acquaintances to leave personal notes. "Our entire football team is deeply saddened by the loss of Taylor," Memphis head coach Tommy West said. "He was well respected and a popular member of our team." The Memphis Tigers will host Marshall University tonight, and a moment of silence was planned before the game.
