TV Tours Famous Abbey NEW YORK --Actor James Mason will take viewers on a dramatic journey through the colorful 900-year history of Westminster Abbey as star of the ABC News Special "Hall of Kings" to be shown, in color, on ABC-TV Tuesday from 10-11 p.m., as a special Valentine's Day presentation. Lynn Redgrave, young British actress, and Siobhan McKenna, Irish actress, will co-star in the program with Mason. The voice of Emlyn Williams, Welsh actor and writer will also be featured. "Hall of Kings" is the first in a series of eight original hour-long color documentaries that will be presented on ABC-TV during 1967.

Produced, written and directed by award- winning Harry Rasky, "Hall of Kings" brings to life on American television many of the great dramatic scenes of Abbey history. Miss Redgrave portrays the 19-year old Victoria on the actual spot in the Abbey where Victoria was crowned, speaking the young queen's own-words from her personal diary. Mason and Miss McKenna come to life in another scene as Robert Browning and Elizabeth Barrett Browning reading some of their famous love letters on the very spot in the Abbey where the British poet is buried. Emlyn Williams becomes the great British Prime Minister Disraeli, in a challenge to his real life political adversary Gladstone, and in ensuing scenes, recites the speeches and poems of other great statesmen and poets whose lives are part of the history of Westminster Abbey. In production for more than a year, "Hall Of Kings," also features the music of Handel as sung by the magnificent 50- voice Westminster Abbey choir.

The special score is by Clinton Elliott. With Mason serving as the on-camera host and guide, viewers are given a personalized tour of the Abbey. The ABC News cameras were allowed to scan every nook and corner of the architectural masterpiece, which has withstood the tides of time for 900 years. By special permission of the Dean of Westminster, the Abbey was opened at night for six weeks to enable the ABC News production crew to film the special.
