Also Logansport is equally benefittted by Mr. Ash's forethought. Mr. Ash who has been a leader the civiic progress of Logansport needs no introduction? as the owner and operator of the Logansport Furniture company.

Today the factory confines its manufacture exclusively to the manufacture of piano benches and each oi these pieces ihat are distributed to piano dealers in. all sections of the nation, bear the trade mark "Logansport Bench. 1 This substantial industry which has been in existence in Logansport for many years has been located at the. west outskirt of Lo: gansport since October 1922. Previous to that time, it.

was located on East Linden avenue on ths bank edge of ths -i River. In the early forties T. S. Manley erected the original factory on the north bank of Eel river, west of the Sixth street bridge. The river location was necessary in.

order to otbain motive power by use of a water wheel. Later L. A. Small purchased part of the interest of Mr. Manly and at the death of the founder, the new patrner purchased the full interest in the factory.

Geo. Ash, father of Edwin and J. C. Handley succeeded Mr. Smith in the business in 1882.

Under the direction of the new owners, the plant was geratly enlarged and new machinery invented by Mr. Ash was installed. In 1907 Mr. Hadley died and Mr. Ash continued the business, until ths time of his death, several years ago.
