The contract gives the UAW-CIO exclusive bargaining rights at all Briggs plants, a clause not contained in UAW agreements with any other large factory in the industry. The previous contract gave the UAW bargaining rights only for its members. The strike first was called over 28 grievances and was prolonged the company balked at the UAW'a demand for a union shop.

A compromise was reached when the union said it would be satisfied with sole-bargaining rights. The new contract permits strikes to be called after the failure of other procedure in the place of the former provision prohibiting strikes during the life of the agreement. Following the settlement a union official said that contract demands next would be laid before General Motors Corporation. Farm Home Damaged By Morning Blaze Fire of undetermined origin destroyed two rooms of the rear portion of the Roland Gumz farm home on the former Benton Long farm In Washington township early Thursday. The blaze was discovered by Mr. Gumz who summoned neighbors and called the Walton fire department.

The Walton fire- truck and crew and neighbors were unable to get the blaze under control before it spanned the porch between the two rooms and the main portion of the house. A. G. Hornbeck of Idaville is a patient at Columbus hospital, Chicago, where she underwent an operation. Miss Marjorie Friend will entertain Tri Kappa sorority this evening. The Past Pocahontas club will meet this evening with Mrs.

and Mrs. Edward Carpenter, was killed late yesterday when he was hit by a car driven by Dr. Harley Flanagan of LaGrangu. Flanagan and his sister who was with him were in serious condition from injuries suffered when he drove the car into the ditch, in an attempt to avoid the boy. SOUTH BEND.

June -(UP)--John Benko, 15, of Sou'ii Bend, was fatally shot late yesterday when a gun which his companion, Robert Kuzmic, 15, was loading accidentally discharged.
